FNQ Too Hot For Thunder

FNQ FC Heat recorded their first win of the season on Saturday evening with a dominant 6-0 win over SWQ Thunder at Clive Bergofer Stadium, Toowoomba.

Mqondis Nkiwane opened the scoring for the visitors ten minutes into the contest before Heat ran away in the second half with five further unanswered goals.

Jamie Gosling and substitute Crios O’Hare netted a brace apiece, while Ethan Docherty also added his name to the list of scorers off the bench.

The Heat started the game with high intensity and were rewarded in the 10th minute when left winger, Josh Di Nittis, crossed the ball into the box where Nkiwane out leapt the defenders to head home past the outstretched Jace Hudson in the Thunder goal.

The remainder of the first half was fairly even with both teams producing a number of good chances to score.

The Thunder went close to equalising on half time when Ryan Ensor switched the ball from the left wing for right winger Anthony Grant, who hit a firm volley just wide of the target.

Just 5 minutes into the second half dangerous Heat midfielder, Jamie Gosling, pulled the trigger from the corner of the 18 yard box on the left hand side of the field and watched the ball curl inside the far post to double the advantage.

Just after the hour, Thunder’s defence lost possession trying to play out from the back. Substitute striker O'Hare pounced and drove the ball into the back of the net to effectively seal the result.

O'Hare then picked up his double in the 78th minute after some good lead up work from his wingers.

Di Nittis, making his debut for Heat, received the ball wide on the left hand side and switched the ball to the right. O 'Hare received the ball to feet in the box and held off the attentions of Ben Watt, before turning and firing home inside the near post.

Things went from bad to worse for the Thunder when substitute right back Ajak Leuth was shown a red card after a dangerous challenge in the 83rd minute.

The Heat quickly capitalised on their numerical advantage when O'Hare cut the ball back from the left hand side for substitute winger, Docherty, to side foot the ball home for a 5-0 advantage.

Gosling then brought up his double in the 87th minute with another solid strike from just outside the 18 yard box. Hudson reacted quickly but spilled the ball and it rolled slowly over the line to round out the six goal margin.

The hosts nearly produced a consolation in the final minutes when some good combination play saw substitute winger, Will Burge, break free. He crossed for Agoth Tong, who was unable to turn the ball in at the far post.

The result consigns Thunder to the bottom of the table without a win after four competitive league matches.
