Supporters XI Nominees - Northern Fury

One of the feel good stories of the National Premier Leagues season was the return of former A-League club Northern Fury to competitive football. Following an inconsistent start to the year, Fury went on a late finals charge in the second half of the season, eventually falling short despite losing only two of their final eleven games.

Fury's efforts were rewarded with two nominations to the Supporters XI.

David King (Centre Back)

Originally hailing from South Africa and playing his junior football in the Victorian goldfield town of Ballarat, David King provided defensive steel this year at the back of the Fury formation. A quick learner, King was instrumental as the Fury turned around their woeful away record in the second half of the season to produce an unlikely finals tilt.

While not the biggest or the strongest centre half in the league, King used his guile to shut down opposition forwards and his keen eye for a pass to launch Fury’s forward forays from the back. King has previously trialled with Melbourne Victory, and more opportunities appear likely as he looks to further stamp his authority on the NPL next year.

Michael Eisenhut (Centre Midfield)

A double nominee, pint-sized New Zealander Michael Eisenhut was a constant presence in the Fury midfield this season resulting in him scooping the awards at Fury’s season-ending presentation  night. Eisenhut’s high work-rate both in attack and defence led him to being affectionately referred to as a ‘midfield terrier’ by opponents and admirers throughout the league.

Eisenhut earned his nominations to the Supporters XI from former Fury coach Gareth Edds and by Moreton Bay Jets coach Terry Kirkham. The two coaches have different approaches, but they both agreed that they would have nobody else patrolling the centre of the pitch than the man teammates call ‘Kiwi’ – high praise indeed.
