City Get Second Straight Win

Brisbane City recorded back-to-back home wins on Saturday night, defeating FNQ FC Heat 2-1 at Spencer Park.

City captain Mat Biggins netted a brace for the hosts with a goal in each half, while Heat pulled one back midway through the second half courtesy of Jamie Gosling.

City started the match in red-hot fashion and opened their account on 8 minutes when Biggins benefitted from a long, looping ball from Alistair Pase.

The midfielder let loose a thunderous drive to the top right-hand corner of the goal, leaving Heat goalkeeper Kevin Ward little chance of a save.

Spurned into action, Heat saw the better of the field position for much of the first half but created few genuine chances.

On 14 minutes, Jamie Carroll made a break out wide producing a drifting cross that forced City goalkeeper Luke Borean to tap the ball clear of the top corner of the goal.

City coach Glen Volker introduced Daniel Sharov early in the second half in an attempt to regain the ascendency, and soon after Biggins doubled the host’s advantage.

Biggins received the ball with his back to goal, turning inside his marker and slotting home to the right of Ward.

Heat remained determined and got their reward on 67 minutes through Gosling, who finished assuredly from close range following a squared pass.

The result was not the homecoming former City player and current Heat coach, Peter Tokesi would have liked, but his side’s performance proved encouraging following last week’s 7-goal home defeat to Brisbane Roar NYL.

The win lifts City to fifth on the NPL Queensland table after three rounds, while Heat remain without a win in twelfth spot.
