Jets Prepared For Take-Off

Moreton Bay United Jets are taking the next step in the development of their MBU Women’s Football Programme, announcing the appointment of Kelvin Wheeler as Director of Women’s Coaching at the NPL Queensland club.

Wheeler will work closely with Jets Technical Director Salvatore Solittle in guiding the club’s women’s programme as NPL Queensland continues to expand its role in developing female football talent.

Wheeler boasts a wide knowledge of local women’s football, coaching both representative and club sides in Brisbane over the past ten years in addition to an AFC 'B' coaching license and Coerver Coaching license.

In addition to his overseeing role, he will also coach Moreton Bay’s Under 16/17 Girls squad in the 2014 season.

A statement on the club’s website read, "MBU F.C. welcomes Kelvin and his family to the club and looks forward to his contribution in making women and girls football at the Jets a force for the future in Queensland."

“It will be a great opportunity for those girls to develop their skills further. We cannot wait to have him join our ranks and impart his knowledge and experience on our youth for 2014.”

Wheeler most recently guided the Taringa Rovers Diamond League squad during the 2013 season following a previous two year stint at The Gap, but will now transfer his talents to NPL Queensland as the competition widens its scope for the 2014 season.

He is also father to Young Matilda Natasha Wheeler, who forms part of Brisbane Roar’s W-League squad for the upcoming season.

Jet Technical Director Solittle said Wheeler’s appointment would see the remaining pieces fall into place quickly for the club’s women's and girl's sides.

“We will have more to announce soon,” Solittle said tantalisingly.
