Congratulations to the U15 CQ girls team who were runners up in their grade final of the Champion of Champions tournament held from 25-28 September on the Sunshine Coast. The girls were the only team from the 5 CQ teams attending to make a grand final. Only the U12s from Biloela managed a win in their normal rounds so it is a great achievement. In the final the girls lost out on a penalty 1-nil to Brisbane team Albany Creek. With one of their players injured and taking nearly 15 minutes to be treated, a certain amount of disappointment was felt at the referee not allowing extra time to compensate. That said, our girls played exceptionally well over the entire weekend and were undefeated going into the final, finishing top of their group. Composed of some girls from Cap Coast, Rockhampton, Gracemere and several girls from Gladstone as well as a few U13 girls from Rockhampton brought in as last minute replacements, the girls gelled tremendously, despite only having a couple of training sessions together. Who knows how well they can play given more time to train and prepare. Next year!
