Team Event Age Category Determination
The IBF has advised the introduction of the following rules regarding the determination of age categories for team events in masters/veterans competition. The rules will apply to the Badminton competition at the Melbourne 2002 World Masters Games:
1. The use of younger players is permitted in certain restricted situations:
- A ten-year penalty shall apply to the team age total should a team wish to use younger players. However;
- Younger players are only permitted from the age category immediately below the one in
which they intend competing
Eg A team entering the 60-64-age category have two players who are 57 and 59.
Under this rule they can stay a team as follows:
The team total age must be 8 players X 60 years = 480 Years
Plus a ten year penalty = 490 years
The team on the team sheet for any match must be 490 years minimum
Eg Team = 62 + 63 + 65 + 67 + 61 + 63 + 57 + 59 = 497 + 10 years = 507 years
Team Total Guide: 35-39 team must be minimum total of 290 years
40-44 team must be minimum total of 330 years
45-49 team must be minimum total of 370 years
50-54 team must be minimum total of 410 years
55-59 team must be minimum total of 450 years
60-64 team must be minimum total of 490 years
65-69 team must be minimum total of 530 years
70-74 team must be minimum total of 570 years
75-79 team must be minimum total of 610 years
80+ team must be minimum total of 650 years
What would not be acceptable is the following:
A team wishing to participate in the 55-59-age category has the following ages:
44 + 49 + 52 + 52+ 56 + 62 + 67 + 72 = 454 + 10 year penalty = 464
Team must play in 45-49-age category (As youngest player is 44 and can only have younger players from age bracket immediately below the one competing in.)
2. Teams must nominate an age category to register in
