Bears Selected for NSW U20's

Four talented young players from the Norths Bears junior representative program have been selected to represent New South Wales at the Australian Under 20 Championships to be held at Dandenong in February next year.

Elizabeth Tonks, Danijela Milisic, Madeleine O’Hehir and Sara Anastasieska have been named in the team and will spend much of the summer attending preparation camps in the lead up to the National Championships, which will be held at the impressive Dandenong Basketball Stadium February 22 – 28.

All four players have represented their state previously in NSW Metropolitan or Country teams, with this selection the first time the two groups come together to represent the state as a whole.
Formerly from the Coffs Harbour Basketball Association, Tonks was one of the stars of the Australian Under 18 Championships last year with her NSW Country team, while Anastasieska, O’Hehir and Milisic were members of the NSW Metropolitan Under 18 outfit. All players were key players as the Norths Bears claimed the Metropolitan Junior League and State Championship titles at club level in 2014.

In other representative news, 15 players from the Northern Suburbs Basketball Association have been selected in NSW Metropolitan Under 16 and 18 squads to participate in the East Coast Challenge at Hills Basketball Stadium Wednesday, January 7 to Friday, January 9.

The NSW Metro teams will play games against South Australia, ACT and Victoria Metropolitan, with teams playing as many as six games across the three-day tournament. For the full list of selected players, including the 15 Norths Bears representative, click here.

Norths will also be well represented in the New South Wales Metropolitan Under 15 teams that will travel to Melbourne to participate in the Southern Cross Challenge, with four boys and three girls selected in teams to compete against Victoria Country, Victoria Metropolitan and South Australia at the State Basketball Centre.

The Northern Suburbs Basketball Association would like to congratulate all the selected players and wish them the best of luck for these major development tournaments throughout January.
