Joseph Appointed NSBA Head Referee Coach

The Northern Suburbs Basketball Association is pleased to announce the appointment of respected senior referee development coach Albert Joseph as Head Coach – Referees and Officials for the association.

Highly credentialed and respected as one of the finest referee educators in Australian basketball, Joseph brings a wealth of experience to Norths and will have a focus on the development of officials at all levels of the association, from our entry level “green shirt” referees to our Premier League and representative officials.

Joseph has played a senior role in development with Basketball NSW for a number of years and in recent times has also worked with FIBA Oceania in the development of officials in the Pacific region. An accomplished referee, he still is actively officiating at association and representative levels of basketball in the state and works closely with the Basketball NSW Referee and Officials department as a commissioner, educator and coach.

Recently appointed as a FIBA Oceania Commissioner, Joseph becomes the second official at the association with that qualification, joining long time Norths official and referee educator Paul Buttsworth.

His role at the NSBA will include overseeing the education of referees and officials, as well as establishing an ongoing development pathway for all officials. Joseph will work closely with newly appointed Officials Administration  Coordinator Pip Hughes and other senior officials from the association to ensure the continued growth of the officiating program at the club.

Northern Suburbs Chief Executive Officer Michael Haynes said Joseph would help the association continue its strong tradition of developing officials.

“Alby is one of the most respected referee educators and senior officials in Australia and we are obviously delighted to have join our team here at Northern Suburbs,” Haynes said.

“We have a host of senior referees, statisticians and score-table officials that provide great leadership in developing our officials and the addition of Alby will play a key role in building on the work of that hard-working group.”

“His experience at club, association, state and national levels provides Alby with a unique understanding of the education and development of officials and we are looking forward to having him work at all levels of the association,” he added.
