NSISC to Host NSGH vs SGHS

The North Sydney Indoor Sports Centre will play host to a special challenge between North Sydney Girls High School and Sydney Girls High School on Friday, December 13.

The challenge is the brainchild of long-time NSBA volunteer and NSGHS coach Harry Ng, who has worked tirelessly with Sally Shierlaw from Sydney Girls High to set up what will be an annual challenge between these two great institutions.

Despite being in its first year, there will be a total of 21 teams competing on Friday, with games starting at 4.30pm and running right through the evening in what is set to be a great night of basketball that will provide the players, coaches and parents from the two schools the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship and spirit of this great initiative.

More than 170 players and coaches will take part in the event, along with eight referees from the Northern Suburbs Basketball Association who will be officiating the games.

Northern Suburbs Basketball Association Development Manager Peter Lonergan said the competition was a great way for young players to stay involved in basketball and paid credit to the ongoing work of Harry Ng.

“Harry was recognized for his outstanding service to Norths and the North Sydney Girls High program by Basketball NSW last year and he continues to be the driving force behind the organization, participation and growth of the program.” Lonergan said.

“To have more than 150 young women competing in a tournament such as this in the second last week of the year is testament to the enthusiasm Harry has for basketball and also the passion these young ladies have to compete and enjoy the challenge of playing sport with their classmates."

“On behalf of the NSBA, I would like to thank the organisers and the two schools for this wonderful initiative and wish all the players, coaches, managers and referees the best of luck for what should be a great night of hoops.”
