Dear Hockey Friends,
Welcome to the Hockey World League Round 1 tournament in Suva, Fiji. This is a particularly exciting event for the FIH as it is the last Round 1 tournament of our inaugural World League. This event is also a great combination of the Oceania Pacific Cup and the World League.
Running concurrently in the next week will be a men’s and women’s tournament that features a wide array of teams from the Oceania Pacific region. At the end of the week the winner of each event will earn the right to move onto World League Round 2 and keep their dreams of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup alive.
In both the men’s and women’s tournaments, the competition will be fierce to make the cut and move on to the next World League level. Host Fiji will face Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanutau. Each team would make a fine addition to the Round 2 line-up.
It will be an exciting week of hockey in Fiji and a great close to our Round 1 tournaments. I would like to wish all the participants the best of luck on the field. In addition, I want to express my gratitude to the Fiji Hockey Association and the city of Suva for hosting this event. I hope everyone enjoys the week and the tournaments.
Leandro Negre,
FIH President
