Round 11 Match Reports and Awards
Under 11 Black. Mitcham 2-15 (27) defeated East Ringwood 1-2 (8)
A gritty win against a determined East Ringwood in arctic conditions. Inaccuracy in front of goal luckily didn't cost the Tigers.
Best Players: Archer, Rishi and Jett
Goals: Chopper and Josh
Under 12B Heathmont 6-3 (39) defeated Mitcham 1-3 (9)
In footy there are such things as honorable loses, where you try hard but nothing seems to go your way. Well this wasn't one of those. We were worked over by a team that wanted the contest more than us. We played with no urgency, little commitment and a complete lack of care to look after the footy when in our possesion. Without the effort from the boys named in our best, it would have been a lot worse. A very soft performance from us and one I hope to never see again!
Best Players: Jack, Jesse, Ty, Alexanderi, Mason, Will
Goals: Daniel
Under 12 Girls Mitcham defeated South Belgrave / Lysterfield
Although the under 12 girls had so far been winless we knew we were improving week on week, and this was proven by getting our first win against a team we had a draw with earlier in the season. The girls clicked really well, they were hitting targets, laying big tackles and setting up around the ball. Congratulations girls, you all deserved the great win.
Goals: Maeve-2, Jemima-2, Zara L-1, Chloe 1
Best: Maeve, Jemima, Zara L, Akybe and Chloe
Under 13 A Mitcham 9-5 (59) defeated Blackburn 0-2 (2)
The boys started well against Blackburn in very wet conditions. We had a handy lead at half time which gave the the boys the sense of belief that has been missing in recent weeks. Very proud of the boys efforts, we have been extremely undermanned over the last few games due to injury and absentees. Very proud of the effort shown by all. Our spread from the contest was oustanding, we won the stoppages and contested ground ball which was pleasing from a coaching point of view.
Best Players: Annguyen T, Hamish G, Noah S, Hudson G, Jack B, Aiden P, Jimmy W
Goals: Goal Kickers: Hamish Gill 3, Jack Baldwin 2, Jai Townsend 1, Luca Orsini 1, Ryan O'Sullivan 1, Ethan Jesse 1
Under 15 Mitcham 6-7 (43) defeated Donvale 4-10 (34)
Round 11 saw us up against Donvale for the first time this year. We started off well driving the ball forward and Josh was able to finally kick his first goal, which has much deserved for his all his efforts each week. But Donvale came back and were able to contral the rest of the quarter and we were down by 10 points at the first break. Not wanting to loose our grip on the game, our men came out and were able to just win the 2nd quarter and go into halftime only down by 9 points. Understanding the importance of this game, our men came out with great intensity and a willingness to influence the contest and we were able to not let Donvale score at all in the 3rd quarter in kicking ourselves to a 7 point last change lead. After a tense and hard fought last quarter, we were able to hold on and win by 9 points. It was a great effort by all the young men that took the field today and kept our season alive. Let's keep this momentum up and who knows were we will end up by season's end!
Best Players: Austin, Boothy, Cal, Damo, Dan N., DT, James, Luke, Tonnam
