Round 9 Match Reports & Awards
Mitcham under 9 Black V Vermont
Today we played Vermont Purple in heavy fog at Koonung. Our two captains today were Ethan S (Captain Tenacious) and Jack (The Package) both of whom did a terrific job. Ethan S also won a medal today for a great game. Our other medal winner was Xavier (Mad Dog) who kicked his first goal and has been improving each week . Ben (The Aviator) won the milkshake for a 3 goal haul and some special attention from the opposition players which Ben handled well. Cam (The Bull) won the Zagame's award for a dominant display in all positions. Thomas (The Terminator) won the Fish & Chips for 4 great goals and some terrific team play. Honourable mentions have to go to Chloe (The Pressure Queen) who played an awesome game today and Zach who had one of his best games of the year. Our kids got a real taste of some winter football today as it was about 4 degrees at 9am. It was also our last game with the 9x9 format. With a bye next week the kids (and parents) get a well earned break before starting to play on a full ground as one team. Well done Blacks

Under 11 Yellow Mitcham 1-1 (7) defeated by Lysterfield / Belgrave 3-2 (20)
We went into the day as the underdogs and Lysterfield would have ticked this off at the start of the week as a easy win on past results. The yellows trained well and I new they were ready for the chanllenge . The boys did everything we asked as a coaching group and we could not have been happier with their efforts. The scores were level at half time, they kick a goal on siren to level the scores . The boys attacked the contest and tackled hard and most of the game look the stronger side. Unfortantly our last quarter cost us again as they got a couple of late goals to seal the game. We have not had the results so far this year and the next three weeks are going to be even a bigger challengers for us but they are a fantastic group just hungry to learn.
Best Players: Noah Albano, Joel Beswick, Lewis Werle, Morgan Hemingway, Joshua Shirley, Oren Bheen

Under 11 Black Mitcham 4-5 (29) defeated Montrose 4-3 (27)
A really hard and tough match this week and after getting a couple of injuries the boys had to really dig deep. To the boys credit, they did, which saw us just get over the line for a 2 point win.
Special thanks to Jake and Jack for backing up after their Under 9 game to help us out.

Mitcham under 12 Girls. Mitcham 0 lost to Blackburn 58
The under 12 girls played top of the table Blackburn on a very cold and foggy Sunday morning. 5 of the girls showed their dedication rushing from aerobics to get to the game just as the first siren went. Despite the girl’s efforts to get there, they were unable to come away with the win. Displaying some good skills, run and carry down the ground and laying some amazing tackles the girls all played extremely well as a team and played one of their best games against a tough side. Good job to all the girls that played.
Best Players: Jemima, Zahli, Tahlia, Vanessa, Maddy. S
Mitcham Under 15's Mitcham 4-3 (27) lost to Lillydale 4-12 (36)
Round 9 saw us come up against top of the table Lilydale at home. Even though we didn’t kick a goal in the first quarter our pressure and effort was up and we knew we could compete with them. A couple of changes in the second quarter, like playing in front, shepharding for our teammates and holding our structure up forward got us back into the game. We were only down by 7 points at halftime, and felt as if we would be able to run over them in the second half. A few skill errors was the only thing that held us back and unfortunately we couldn't get over the top of them, going down only by 9 points. Credit to all of our players for continuing to play to a high level and taking it up to the best in our division. Even though we didn't come away with a win, we know if we play like that for the rest of the season we will win more than we lose.
