Under 12A Grand Final by Will Goulding (Coach)
Vermont 4.5.29 d Mitcham 2.1.13
Grand Final Day! The boys have worked hard all season which started in early February. Arriving at Walker Reserve the ground was more swamp than football ground.
We kicked the first and last goal but nothing in between.
The boys tried their best but Vermont were just too good on the day. The boys will be better for the experience next year. Thanks again to Dave F for his support throughout the season. Dave & Peta Marriner as Team Manager, Deb Fryer & Peta as match day trainers, Vince as Runner and head of match commitee.
To all the parents, thank you for allowing David and I to coach these very talented young men.
Well done to Sandy and the U13's reward for all the effort.
Good luck to the U14 girls on Sunday. Looking forward to 2019 already.
Best: Hamish, Christian, Luke F, Leo
Goals: Tynan 1, Hudson 1
Under 13C Grand Final by Sandy Marini (Coach)
Mitcham 6.2.38 d Forest Hill 4.2.26
Sunday morning came. I tried hard as a coach and a dad to not let the big occasion get to me prior. It proved very difficult. Some people might say take it easy it's only under 13s but after spending years with these boys and realising the work that was put in and what we had gone through to get here, it meant everything to me.
We arrived to the ground to a swarm of yellow and black support. It was amazing to see the large turn out that we had to support us on the big stage. We had played Forest Hill twice through the season and got their measure both times. We set ourselves some goals. 15 minutes of hard football then reassess and go again. We achieved that goal by scoring a couple of majors and sending a message early to Forest Hill that they're in for a tough one. Second quarter came and Forest Hill with a strong wind eased back into the game and showed some fight. A late goal to Forest Hill towards the end of the second quarter kept them in the game. In the rooms at half time the boys looked refreshed.
Everything I've asked of these boys through the season and especially at half-time they have responded.
They say the third quarter can be the winning quarter and we definitely set ourselves up with one. The final quarter was an arm wrestle. Although through the game I thought we dominated at the stoppages some big kicks in to Forest Hills 50 help the scoreline look respectable. The siren went and a wall of emotion hit me.
Looking around at the lads celebrate and the parents Joy on their faces meant everything to me. I know it's important to acknowledge individual performances but through the year in my coach's report ive talked up the team as a whole. This team has always performed as a whole. This is what I love about them.
Sam, Oscar, Charlie B, Charlie W, Alexi, Matty, James F, James PB, Jok, Stephen, Ashton, Jeremy, Jenson, Felix, Gruff, Max, Ben, Xavier, Zac, Josh, Luke, Liam and Lachlan - These lads have a bond now that can never be broken. They are part of a premiership team and one that has worked their butts off. If there were 6 of them having an off day another 6 would step up.
So that was it. A great result for the under 13s, parents, family and Club. As my anxiety slipped away, nothing but Joy overcame me. I want to thank Carlo who has been the most fantastic assistant coach you could ever ask for, along with Bernie our team manager, Chris our trainer, Tom and Huw our runners and all the parents who put their hands up week after week for game day duties. Also a big thank you to the mums who put the effort in to make the streamers and pom poms for the big day. I also want to thank the parents for letting me coach their boys and believing in me. The amount of support I've had from this under 13 Parent group has been amazing and I'll never forget that. To Craig Giles and Glenn Newnham - you both are champion blokes.
P.S. Congratulations to Zac Sandow and good luck at the EFL B&F dinner in a couple of weeks!
Under 14 Girls Div. 1 Preliminary Final by Michael McCormack (Coach)
Mitcham 3.11.29 d Donvale 0.3.3
Preliminary Final time - the winner heading into the big dance against the Basin Bears. Our girls nervous, the opposition nervous, the weather shocking; cold wet - Freezing! I will have to say both teams deserved to win playing in these conditions, so well done to both sides! The backline was strong, fierce and relentless. The on ballers were strong in the packs and running hard. The forwards locking the ball in – conditions just shocking! Seeing the faces at half time, blankets, hot water, it really hit in just how hard it was out on the ground. The girls dug deep and pushed hard.
A big thank you to the parents, grandparents and family friends for helping us out. Blankets, hot water and the kind words helped make the job easier. You guys rock! Craig, Glenn and Jess Grace - thankyou kindly. This is why the Mitcham Junior Football Club is so successful - you guys are all class!
Goals: Jade McCormack, Karla Alizzi, Lucy Ongaro
Best: The Team, Parents, Grand-parents, Family friends and the Mitcham Junior football Club.
A big thanks to all! Go tigers!
