Mitcham under 12 Girls
Mitcham V East Ringwood
Summary: On Sunday it was our final game for the year and we were up against East Ringwood for the third time this season, going down both times, so we knew it was going to be a tight match. The girls started the game off really tough and fast, which resulted in a goal kicked out of the pack by our skipper, Lauren. The day was tough but our girls stuck to their jobs for the day, Alessia ran all day through the midfield, Taya was consistent and tough with her hit outs, players like Hayley, Gemma & Savannah stuck tight with their players all day and Matilda Ridgeway played her role in the backline using her booming kicks to move the ball forward. Tahlia took some great marks down back saving the other team from scoring. The whole day was really close, back and forth a lot with very little scoring. Shout out to Mathilda and Stella who played their roles well, both down back and up forward, even though they wanted to play in the midfield, but they worked really hard for the team. In the forward line our girls worked just as hard to lock the ball in, Jess and Teagan laying some great tackles, Erin attacking the footy and being first to the ball at all times. The last quarter was quite stressful as East Ringwood were coming for the win, it was very tight, only a few points in it but the girls were giving it their all and weren't going to give this win up. Charlotte’s great attack on the ball gave us a good run, tackles by Jen and Vanessa helped lock the ball in and use the time wisely. It was down to the last few minutes and East Ringwood were pushing, in the final 30 seconds it entered East Ringwood’s forward line with a girl marking it, playing on and kicking a goal, unfortunately(for them) you cannot play on and she had to go back and try kick the goal with a shot after the siren. We rushed all our girls back on the line, the East Ringwood player kicked the ball without making the distance but bounced at right angles and over everyone and was almost past the line, when our saviour Amazing Grace touched it right on the line resulting in a win for our girls!!! What an exciting way to end the season. Thanks for a great year girls! And to all the parents for their support and help! GO TIGES

Mitcham under 12 Boys
Teams: Mitcham 3.6-24 V Croydon 3.4-22
Summary "The boys started very slow against Croydon. To Croydon’s credit they never allowed the boys to play our brand of football. The true test came with a grinding second half. Our run and carry of the ball during the second half opened up the game. The spark from Noah and Jack lifted the boys in the 3rd quarter and the team started to get their hands on the ball more. This was the main difference during the second half. A very tight last quarter saw Jack kick the sealer with 90sec to go. Fair to say he was brilliant under pressure as 18 Croydon kids manned the mark! We need to be able to perform better under finals pressure, especially this week against Vermont. Both teams have had a win against the other during this season - it should be a terrific game! Thanks to all who turned out to support the boys and good luck to Sandy’s U13s this weekend.

Mitcham under 14 Girls
Teams: Mitcham 12.10 -82 V Upper Ferntree Gully 0.2-2
Summary: Playing at walker park last game of the year the girls were up and ready to go, what an exciting day the u/10 u/12 and u/16 all at home, the girls bounced out of the blokes running hard very physical at times the skill level was amazing team work run and carry. The backline once again strong and fearless the on ballers running hard causing problems all over the ground ,the forwards hitting the goals time and time again. It was a real team effort, running hard backing up, very pleasing. The opposition after the game coming up to us and saying your girls are amazing respectful, all class that’s tops. Role models for girls playing sport I personally would like to say you girls are a class act. Finishing on top, that’s fantastic - finals are on and we are ready!

Mitcham under 16 Girls
Teams: Mitcham V Glen Waverley Rovers
Summary: The under 16 girls took on the top of the ladder Glen Waverley Rovers in their final game of the season at Walker Park. The girls were looking forward to a great game with a big crowd in attendance. While the result didn’t go our way the commitment that the girls showed in this game could not be questioned. Except for a patch in the third quarter we managed to contain the Rovers especially in the last quarter when they didn’t kick a goal despite a strong wind favouring their goals. The improvement that the girls have shown over the year has been tremendous and the way that they have bonded and formed great friendships is so pleasing to see. Despite not having a great win/loss record for the season they are a pleasure to coach and they should be proud of their seasons. Thanks to Matt O’Dwyer for his efforts as runner/assistant coach throughout the course of the season especially on those cold days, Kaye Stevenson for keeping all the parents up to date and organizational skills that need to be seen to be believed in her role as team manager and to Anthony Grace for always been there as our trainer even on the games that Jess wasn’t playing he was always there. Mark Linnett also deserves a pat on the back for work as a boundary umpire for the season. Also to all the parents for the help with filling the magnitude of roles that need to be carried out on a weekly basis especially with a smaller team list.
