Summary A shortened game today due to the weather. We only played a quarter and a half and pulled the pin when lightning appeared. Despite the wet conditions we got off to a flyer today. Ben (the Aviator) D'Costa kick 4 first quarter goals. Ethan (Captain Courageous) Reed was our captain today and he also won the medal. Ethan Schutt got plenty of the ball in the middle in the first quarter and won the player of the week award. It was really great to see that even with the terrible weather today every kid turned up and was ready to play. The kids got their first taste of real wet weather football today. A big shout out to the parents as well. Go Blacks
Best Players: Ethan Reed, Ethan Schutt, Jake McConnell, Ben D'Costa, Camden Walters, Max Lazarus

With Melbourne in the middle of a deluge of rain, right on normal game start time it was decided to try and get as much game time in during a break in the rain. The Yellows handled the conditions very well, with fairly clean handling and long runs through the middle with the day's Captain Jono Ewison, Zack, Preston and Oscar Lavelle combining. The team managed several scores, with Andy and Max Murphy getting clear possessions and finishing the attacking moves. Most players contributed and by the 2nd quarter, the game was fairly even. Unfortunately, torrential rain came again midway through the 2nd and the game was called off - though I think most of the players were keen to stay out there.

Summary:Lead by our duel captains Zac S and Jack the boys played some great football in weather that was more suitable for ducks. We were first to the ball and up and about with Jack lifting for the occasion and had his hand in everything. Archer was great in the middle, while Heath had us on our feet with glorious center clearance. Oscar’s grip and rip came into play down in the forward line while Zac M again chipped in with a couple of goals. Great 4 quarter effect in very trying conditions. Go Tigers.
Best Players: Jack, Zac M, Archer, Tom M

Summary In what I can only describe as treacherous conditions, our boys committed well to the cause and played some really good wet weather football. With everyone cold and wet, we were able to kick a few goals and keep the opposition scoreless, so well done. Unfortunately for us, the lightning struck just on half time which caused the game to be called off. At this point, we headed back into the rooms with a few of the boys putting their hands up for our dance contest. Oren absolutely carved it up with some moves that any old school break dancer would be proud of. Great game boys, and let’s make sure we are switched on and ready to play against Vermont this week. Special welcome to Cooper Kroezen for having his first game for the team on Sunday, and will fit in nicely.

Mitcham 0.0-0 V Bayswater 6.16--52
Summary: Another wintery Sunday saw us struggle to get the troops onto the field again as we started the game with just 16 players before Dan Grace arrived to help us out. Once again our slow starts were costly as Bayswater kicked away with four first half goals in the wet. A number of the guys struggled to get going but fortunately the leaders stood up again with Tyson and Jaylen especially having big first halves. We competed a bit harder around the contest in the third quarter and kept them goalless with Caden, Inti and first-gamer Andrew all doing well in the midfield while Tong, Dan and Alex got plenty of the ball and applied loads of pressure. Toby and Dylan got themselves into the game a bit more as we played our best quarter. After another promising third quarter, things fell away a bit in the last with Bayswater having things their own way. The backline stood up well to allow 2 goals despite the barrage, as we couldn’t get the ball past the wing.
Best Players: Tyson Darmody, Jaylen Allen, Inti Nieto, Andrew Koem, Caden Sleap, Alex Parigi, Dan Grace

Summary:In the wettest conditions I can remember, we took on Rowville. With only 15 players from our squad available, we called on 3 under 10 boys to fill in for us. Thanks to James "Killer" Watt, Charlie "Chopper" Wilson and Ryan "Ryno" McConnell for helping us out today! We couldn't have had a worse start with Rowville kicking a goal in the first 30 seconds of the game and another goal shortly after. We also lost another player at 1/4 time to illness which saw us down to 17 men for the rest of the game. Remarkably we turned the tide in the second quarter and had more of the play in our forward half. After half time our boys really showed what they were made of. With only 16 players on the ground for much of the second half against a team with 6 on the bench, we fought back and almost pulled off a great victory. Well done boys on a terrific fight back.
Best Players: James Wilson, Jack Ewison, Jesse Horvat, Daniel Chin, Ryan McConnell, James Watt

Summary:The weather didn't dampen the boys thirst for the contest, as Walker Park's own version of the great Zambezi River made its way to the best drainage system in the East. We started well with Ronaldo type skills from Jack & Luke F, two excellent strikes of the ball you wouldn't see better at the World Cup. Contested pressure was the order of the day. It was a simple message, move the ball forward anyway possible. Fair to say it wasn't our prettiest win, we didn't kick 100pts, but these kids played their hearts out for a well deserved win. Congratulations to Dan & Hamish on 50 games, and a big welcome back to the team for Aiden and Lachlan, terrific to have them both back in the fold.

Summary: On the road, Playing away again, in trying conditions, the girls started well, the backline once again stood strong repelling attacks time and time again, well lead by Meagan, Meg Luccy D and Rock Allanah Fry. In the middle it was hard and physical - Lainys ruck work was outstanding, Lilly causing havoc, and once again Jess showing class. The forward line moving the ball was more like a rugby game than an ALF game.T he ladies persisted in trying conditions scoring 5 big ones for the day. Outstanding games from Allanah Fry & Lainy Whitling Phillip

Teams: Mitcham V Wantirna South
Summary: This week we took on Wantirna South at home. The first quarter saw us come out of the blocks slowly and Wantirna South was able to get 3 goals on the board, however shortly before quarter time Tonnam was able to slot a brilliant goal on the run. With a more defensive mindset in the second quarter we were able to break even and go into halftime still only 2 goals down. In the third quarter the tide started to turn. The ruck/midfield combination of Austin and Damo gave us more drive out of the middle. DT, Raph and Sheraz were in and under at the contest and Boothy and JP were presenting well and providing options up forward. We were able to close the gap to only 1 goal at 3-quarter time. With a desire to commit to the contest, as well as perform more selfless acts like shepherding, tackling, smothering, and running in support we were able to hold the opposition to only 1 point while we kicked 3.4. It was really satisfying to see all players commit to each other and ensure we came away winners on the day. A big thank you goes out to Lachie and Jordy for filling in for us today as we were low on numbers.

Mitcham V Upper Ferntree Gully
Summary:6th vs 7th, meant the U15 needed to win with any hope of making finals. Scoring was always going to be difficult due to the wet and windy weather. The U15 back line continued with their tradition of keeping an opposition score at bay. Yesterday was no exception as Upper Ferntree Gully recorded its 2nd lowest score for the season. That being said the U15 had to work hard to achieve the win as UFG never gave up. Next week is 6th v 5th (Montrose) another must win if the season is to move past round 14.
Best Players: Lucas Livermore, Harry Catlin
Goals: Wu (2), Declan (2), Dom (1), Sam (1)

Upper Ferntree Gully V Mitcham
Summary The under 16 girls took on Upper Ferntree Gully at Dobsons Park. While the ground had some significant surface water on it after the rain it wasn’t as muddy as expected. While the result didn’t go our way the girls continued to fight the game out to the end while also playing the game in a manner that all the parents should be extremely proud of. Our awards went to Georgia Harman who was at the bottom of so many packs and played a fantastic game in the conditions. Georgia Linnett also had a fantastic game and had a big impact wherever she played.
Best Players: Jess, Hayley, Riley and Jazmyn
