Mitcham under 8 Black
Teams: Mitcham Black V Blackburn Black
Summary A fantastic match today with Mitcham Black playing a very good Blackburn side. A very even game played at an extremely high standard for under 8's. If they kept score in under 8's I think we would have been looking at the 2 grand finalist today. Standouts today were our Encouragement award and medal winner Daniel (the Dominator) Sagwan who took several great marks, kicked a nice goal and his passing and silky skills were beautiful to watch. Our player of the week was Ethan Reed whose acts of courage demanded the milkshake today. Ethan backed into a pack with eyes only for the footy and got crunched (nearly taking the mark). Minutes later knowing the likely outcome he did exactly the same thing again. He also took several nice marks and had plenty of the ball. Our captain for the day was Flynn Hardy who led from the front. Brody Wolst played his best game today and was close to getting the medal. He kicked a great goal and took some nice marks on the last line of defence. Liam O ‘Dwyer kicked what may have been the match winning goal today after the siren. It was great to see all the kids get around him to celebrate. I am sure that will be a life time memory for Liam. Riley Byrnes from the Yellows played for us today and was terrific all over the ground. It was great to see Riley playing with his mates and he is welcome in the Blacks any time. Austin Loring was hard at it today and was brave with a few nice smothers. Thomas (the Terminator) Coulsen picked up where he left off last week with leather poisoning once again and 2 nice goals. Jake (the Extractor) McConnell was everywhere today and is always a pleasure to watch. Jake also played in the under 10's before our game and if I had enough vouchers I would give him a milkshake every week. Max Lazarus had a huge third quarter with several nice marks and some great run out of defence. He also kicked a nice goal. Chloe Linnett took a great mark and her passing was pinpoint. I think Chloe had 100% effective possessions today. Ethan Schutt played well with some hard work and quick kicks out of the packs. Archer Howard played his best game today with some nice running play and ruck work. Cam Walters was a bull today crashing through the opposition. The opposition coach commented to me after the game that our number 27 was unstoppable so well done Cam. A great performance today by the Blacks.
Best Players: Daniel Sagwan, Ethan Reed, Brody Wolst, Thomas Coulsen, Liam O'Dwyer, Riley Byrnes, Jake McConnell, Michael Bamford.
Goals: Thomas Coulsen 2, Liam O'Dwyer 1, Max Lazarus 1, Brody Wolst 1, Daniel Sagwan 1
Mitcham under 8 Yellow
Teams: Mitcham Yellow V East Burwood
Summary: Mitcham yellow’s started well with a goal within the first minute, through the day’s Captain Jarrod in the ruck and running play from Aston, Preston and Tate.
The focus on running the ball and creating space was working, with Andy, Lachlan, Jono and Seth taking on the opposition, creating scoring with Zack and Preston on the end of some great work in the midfield. Some excellent defence was shown through hassling and pressure, with
Oscar saving a goal on the line and clearing the ball. Several goals were scored, including Cooper,
Preston, Max and Riley. The team is combining better each week and all players
should be proud of their improvement so far this year.
Best Players: Aston Benke, Jono Ewison, Preston Sleap, Riley Byrnes, Andy Iero and Zack Stanfield

Teams: Mitcham V Upper Ferntree Gully
Summary: Round 5 against Ferntree Gully was the first time this year we’ve had consecutive games in consecutive weeks, which gave the boys some real continuity and it showed. The boy’s effort was fantastic lead by Dylan who was captain for the day.
A great smother by Cody resulted in the first goal while Connor was like a dog with a bone. Jake’s improving each week and again took another step with his run and carry. Harvey and Jacks marking was great to watch while Zac M was again breaking the lines.
A great passage of play involving Ollie, Oscar,Zac C and Heath all teaming up to run the ball coast to coast was the highlight of the day. Great work team! Go Tigers
Best Players: Connor, Zac M, Harvey, Jake, Cody.
Goals: 2 Molinaro, Redshaw, 1 Chivers
Mitcham under 10 Yellow
Teams: North Ringwood V Mitcham
Summary: With a few guys struck down by illness leaving us with only 14 players, we started off really strongly but couldn’t trouble the scorers in the first half. North Ringwood on the other hand made the most of their opportunities and kicked a couple of goals during the second term going in at half time leading. We turned things around in the third term and played the sort of footy we know. We then went back to not picking up our players in the last and North Ringwood ran away with a good win. Lets all get to training on Wednesday so we can start working on our defensive game.
Best Players: Encouragement Medal - James Watt Two Brother Café Award - Oren Bheem McDonalds Award - Gus Atherton
Goal Kickers: Charlie Wilson 1, Daniel Grace 1 and Charlie Cruse 1
Mitcham under 10 Girls
Teams: Mitcham V East Ringwood
Summary: The under 10 girls put up a good fight with a close game making all their mums proud for Mother’s Day. Each one of the under 10’s had a roll and they all played it very well the whole game. We had to share 4 players each quarter to help the other team out but each girl that played for the other team did it with a smile on their faces and enjoyed playing against their own team mates.
Best Players: Abi Woolf, Felicity van Rensburg, Elise De Ross, Gemma Horvat, Matilda Shea
Goals: Perri Goulding-1, Maeve Gill-1, Abi Woolf- 1, Felicity van Rensburg-1
Mitcham under 11 Black
Mitcham 0.1-1 V North Ringwood 2.5-17
Summary: After a poor game last week, we came up against the top side with a focus on getting our contested footy back to a high level, running hard and being a bit more composed with the ball. We started well and the boys were clearly switched on and put in a really solid four quarter effort with just a couple of small lapses that resulted in goals. The boys were much more accountable and worked very hard around the ball. Our leaders showed the way with our captain for the day Tyson having a sensational game winning the ball as well as piling on the pressure all over the ground. Jaylen once again ran himself into the ground, and Patrick forced heaps of stoppages and didn’t stop competing. Noah started to show some glimpses of his best while Dylan, Stephen and Cooper were again resolute in defence along with Ryan who gave us loads of rebound across half back. Overall it was a much-improved effort across the board against a good side as we held them to just two goals.
Best Players: Tyson Darmody, Patrick Petterlin, Noah Beyar, Jaylen Allen, Ryan McConnell, Dylan Spencer Yates, Stephen Stansfield
Mitcham under 11 Yellow
North Ringwood 2.4-16 V Mitcham 3.8-26
Summary: The boys were keen to atone for last weeks loss and put on a good show for the huge crowd (especially their mums). They tried hard all game, however found it hard to convert the midfield ascendency into scoreboard ascendency. The hard work eventually paid off and in the end we ran out 10 point winners with all the boys contributing. Thanks to all the mums for turning out and giving up a part of your day, not to mention the half time show you put on. Congrats Karen on winning the mums longest kick.
Best Players: Jesse Horvat, Mason Porter, Jack Ewison, Heath Fox, Daniel Chin, William Aujard
Goals: Ty Crupi, James Wilson, William Aujard
Mitcham under 12 Girls
Mitcham 4.4-28 V North Ringwood 3.0-18
Summary: This week the under 12 girls played North Ringwood. The morning started off a bit funny when we all ended up at the wrong oval, but we quickly packed up our things and made it to the right oval. We started off the day really well when we kicked 2 quick goals in the first qtr. Well done to Lauren & Matilda Ridgway for kicking our first goals. The rest of the game was tight and tough, but the Mitcham girls never gave up and all worked really well as a team, fantastic to see Teagen rewarded for great tackle, Jess again was great with her strong tackles all day, but her last quarter heroics deserve special mention, taking a fantastic mark in the backline, then minutes later, she took the risk of leaving her player in the backline to run to another player by herself who could of easily kicked a goal, Jess got to her and created a ball up that potentially saved the game, then like a true defender sprinted back to pick up her player again, a fantastic effort when the game was in the balance. Gemma got a great goal on the run to give as a bit of breathing space, but North Ringwood got a quick goal, making it a bit stressful and just a 10 point game, but to our girls credit they worked hard and were able to keep the margin to 10 points for a hard fought win.
Best Players: Team Effort today.
Goals: Matilda R 2, Lauren, Gemma

Mitcham 6.9.45 V Glen Waverly Rovers 2.2.14
Summary:We came up against a very tall Glen Waverley Rovers Team. They are a well drilled team who move the ball with excellent pressure. Even though we had a good first quarter, we couldn't gain the scoreboard pressure we wanted. During the game our midfield pressure lifted along with our two way running and by half time we were well in control. We continued with a strong performance in the last 2 quarters. Well done to the 50 game players Tynan, Luke M & Hudson. Good Luck to Aiden at the All Star National Baseball Champs in Lismore.
Best Players: Ryan M, Danny F, Peter C , Hudson G, Hamish G, Aiden P, Cooper H, Ryan O
Goals: Hudson 2, Peter 2, Aiden 1, Ryan O 1

The Basin 4.3.27 V Mitcham 10.11.71
Summary R5 at Batterham reserve v The Basin was a tough first half with the Cubs ahead by a couple of points at the main break. A trade mark 3rd & 4th quarter thus season ensured one way traffic that gave us a comfortable win.
Best Players: Matty. Lachlan. Gruff. Ashton. Jeremy
Mitcham under 14 Girls (BYE)
Mitcham under 15
Mitcham 7.3.45 V Ferntree Gully Eagles 5.8.38
Summary: You have not lived until you watch the U15's play. Sunday's game saw a team start with 18 from a possible list of 24, which was quickly reduced to 17 players in the first quarter after our very own Jamie Ross was concussed. Ben Petterlin played his 100th game in what was a tough win against the odds. A credit to every player on the field who each gave everything they had to make sure of victory. The final minutes of the 4th quarter was a heart stopping affair with FTG hitting the post several times bringing the margin to 1 point with 2 minutes remaining! A desperate defence moved the ball downfield where Stevo managed to snag a goal in the final seconds of the game.
Best Players: Callum Sullivan, Ben Petterlin
Goals: Dominic (5), Lucas (1), Adlai (1)
Mitcham under 16 Girls
Vermont V Mitcham
Summary:The under 16 girls took on Vermont at Vermonts junior ground. After being regraded the girls were looking forward to an improved showing against the unbeaten Vermont. The girls got off to good start with the ball spending a lot of time in our forward line to the game with some fantastic work by all the girls but unfortunately we werent able to apply as much scoreboard pressure as we wanted. While we had another loss it was one bad quarter that made the final margin greater than what it needed to be. Our awards went to Maddy who played her best game of the year and seemed to be everywhere that the ball was and to Finn who got a lock of possessions by working hard to be in the right spot at the right time. Thanks to Jade for playing up from the under 14’s. You were fantastic for us from the first bounce made sure that we were given the chance in our forward line.
Best Players:Georgia, Riley, Jess, Sydney and Hayley
