The importance of Anzac Day round was again recognised by the Mitcham Junior Football Club during Sunday’s home games at Walker Park. Opposing team were invited to line up before each game as the Last Post and National Anthem were played and a minutes silence was also observed. All families treated the occasion with the appropriate respect and it’s great to be able to acknowledge the importance of Anzac Day and have our players share in the commemoration.
We also had the Mitcham apparel tent sent up which had a full range of supporter gear available for sale. We thank Michelle Treeby for working in the tent and a reminder that we will be operating this for the next two weeks.
Finally, the new Mitcham goal post pads also arrived this weekend and looked fantastic with their Mitcham logo’s prominent. We ran out of time to draw the prizes at the Senior Presidents Lunch and will now draw the winners at our first Food Truck Night which will be Friday 4th May.
ROUND 2 MATCH REPORTS:
Mitcham under 8 Black
Teams: Mitcham Black V Vermont Purple (Koonung Reserve)
Summary: A very even contest today with terrific skills and marking from both teams, Mitcham played terrific team footy once again. Standouts were our award winners, Jake McConnell who was player of the match with some courageous work around the packs and Ben D'Costa who won our encouragement medal, dominated the air with about 15 marks and shared the ball really well. We also saw some terrific defensive work from Michael Bamford and Daniel Sagwan who repelled numerous attacks. Flynn Hardy ran hard and moved the ball well. There was some terrific running play from Brodie Wolst and Chloe Linnett. Great ruck work from Liam O'Dwyer. Thomas Coulson had some silky skills and even lost a tooth but just handed it to his mum and went back on (Tiger tough). Archer Howard and Ethan Reed worked well together with some nice work in close. A couple of nice goals from Maxwell Lazarus and Camden Walters was a rock in defense

Lightning Premiership Carnival
Big day yesterday for both the kids and the parents. The day got off to a flyer with our boys defeating Blackburn , Matt and myself were not just impressed by the win but how the boys went about the win allot of the preseason training was shining through. The boys worked really hard through the whole game and in turn come away with a strong win the side set up really well and it is nice to see some of the boys taking control of their areas. The next two games brought us back to earth quickly but I have to say both Matt and I were very proud of the way the boy’s fort out the second game, after the break the boys started to work into the game really well we cannot question their desire to be involved in the contest. The third game was very evenly match and while we went down we had our chances and I just think the boys were cooked , we have to remember there is a large amount of new players in our side again and we must be patient as these boys will learn to run out the whole game. Big thanks to all the parents who helped we have amazing support on and off the field. Next week we will have a big focus on our work rate a need to help our team mates out, kick to a target and our enjoyment of football while learning new things. As there is no training please get the boys outside for Kick as I want a good performance from the boys on the weekend so we can build on their confidence. Well done to Rishi and Tarren you both deserved the medals, the reward was for your efforts you both gave 100 percent throughout the day and responded to all the challengers that we as coaches put in front of you. Your deployment in different areas of the game is already is very pleasing and we all look forward to you growing even more throughout the year. Go Tigers!

ANOTHER LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP WIN
Well what a day. A fantastic effort from each and every player who pulled on the Black and Yellow jumper today. We started off with a great first up clash against a quality Blackburn outfit, but our boys with great teamwork were a bit too strong. Our second game was against Lysterfield who also started off strongly, but when our boys got going they were very hard to stop. Our third game was aganst East Burwood which was probably our best one for the day, running away quite convincing winners. That then brought us to our final game for the day against an undefeated Montrose team. After getting off to a slow start our boys dug deep, displaying great teamwork and in true ANZAC spirit displaying bravery and mateship we got over the line for a fantastic final win. A special thank you to all the parents and families as well as the Mitcham Black for all of your support on the day.

Mitcham 8.7 -55 V Glen Waverley Rovers 0.0-0
Summary:The boys followed on from their improved second half performance last week and a terrific week on the training track to record a comfortable victory over the Rovers. The boys were first to the ball from the opening bounce and controlled things all day, as they are getting better and understanding their roles. Our captain for the day Patrick led the way around the contests, along with Alex who was in everything. Noah, Tong and Tyson gathered plenty of the ball and ran all day. Our Anzac Medal was awarded to Caden Slap for another selfless game where he attacked the contest and fed the ball out to his teammates, whilst also managing to snag his first ever goal. Overall, it was a great team effort to record our first win.

Mitcham 7.0 – 42 V Rowville 5.2-32
Summary: In perfect conditions we took on a fierce and competitive Rowville team on their home patch. In a great game by both teams, we finally gained the ascendency when it mattered in the last quarter by playing accountable footy, but then breaking away and using our foot speed and skill when we had the footy. A great team effort in a come from behind win.
Best Players: Heath Fox, James Wilson, Angus Butler, Mason Porter, Will Aujard, Jesse Horvat
Goals: Angus Butler 2, Will Aujard, James Wilson, Heath Fox, Matt Burkitt, Ty Crupi
Mitcham under 12 Girls
Mitcham 0.3-6 v East Ringwood 1.0-6
Summary: A great day for footy saw us take on East Ringwood at Walker Park. We were a bit loose in the backline which saw East Ringwood on the board early with a goal in the first. In what turned out to be a very scrappy game the girls fought hard for the next 3 quarters, with a couple of chances to goal, but were only able to manage 3 points (2 posters). Our tackling and intensity improved each quarter, and a final chance on goal in dying seconds just fell short. Well done to Lauren on her Anzac medal and to Maeve and Erin from the U10s for filling in.
Best Players: Lauren, Taya, Savannah, Alessia, Mathilda A

Mitcham under 16 Girls
Mitcham V Kilsyth
Summary:The under 16 girls took on Kilsyth this week at walker Park. As both sides were coming off similar losses the girls were looking forward to a close game. Unfortunately the pressure that we applied to the opposition last week was missing this week and our ability to play a tight defence game was non-existent. We look forward to our next match where win lose or draw we want to walk away with a smile on our faces. Well done to Hayley on winning the Anzac medal from Kilsyth and to Georgia L for winning our medal for best on ground
Best Players:Sydney (in her first game for the year) Maddy, Riley and Georgia H.
