Teams: Mitcham Vs North Ringwood (Koonung Reserve)
Summary: With first game nerves and five new players it was a wet introduction to round one footy. The U'9 Black boys were a little slow to start however, once warmed up and with some great team play from Zac M and Cody F, along with some strong marking from Iggy and Jack we were back in the game. A great goal celebration from Ollie and Harvey showing some great leadership captaining the team for the day. After a long preseason it was a great four quarter effort. GO TIGERS

Mitcham under 9 Yellow
Teams: The Basin Vs Mitcham (Batterham Reserve)
Summary: Today the Mitcham U9 Yellow team had a hard fought game against a very good side from The Basin. The game was played in wet conditions and our boys took a while to get going. The Basin were first to the ball and in front for the first 3 quarters however our boys rallied in the last quarter and stated getting first to the ball which resulted in us finishing strongly. Let's bring that again next week for 4 quarters on our home ground against Nth Ringwood boys!
Well done to Callum, Sam, Harper and Fletch for playing their first game.
A special mention to Darcy for receiving player of the week. Well done to Callum, Sam, Harper and Fletch for playing their first game.
Best Players: Darcy, Haydn, Charlie, Billy, Riley, Thomas, Cooper, Mitch

Mitcham under 10 Black
Teams: Kilsyth V Mitcham (Pinks Reserve)
Summary: The black team travelled out to Kilsyth for the round 1 match. With cold and wet conditions and at least 5 debutants in the side both Matt and I were very pleased with our efforts. Marco was our round 1 leader and was good in mutable positions, all the boys showed pleasing signs at different times during the game. Morgan was trailed in a forward position and awarded an encouragement awarded for his efforts in the first half, young Chris also received an encouragement award for efforts in the back line at the start of the game I spoke to Chris about shutting his player down and sticking to his task on which Chris did wonderfully well. Jacob Bugler was our best player for the day and was strong over the football and worked hard while on the ball to help out in defence. Jett was given the award from the opposition team for his attack on the ball while playing at CHF he is developing his game nicely in this position. Parents please keep on encouraging the boys while at home, it is not about how good a player you are but the amount effort you put into the game the rest will happen with the effort. Thanks to all the parents who helped on the day and please get around and encourage the kids at each break.
Best Players: Jacob, Morgan (Encouragement Award), Chris (Encouragement Award) Jett Awarded North Ringwood Medal.
Mitcham under 10 Yellow
Teams: Mitcham Vs Rowville (Walker Park)
Summary: Led by our skipper Dan Grace, today we had a great start to the season with all players doing their bit for the team. We started to do things we have been practising at training, which is really encouraging and helped us play real team footy. A special thank you to Hamish and Harley from the Mitcham Black team for helping us out today, much appreciated. Well done guys and let's now look forward to the Lightning Premiership next week.
Best Players: Great team effort. Encouragement Medal - Oscar Tribolet. Two Brother Café Award - Henry Ridgeway.

Mitcham under 10 Girls
Teams: Yarra Glen V Mitcham (Yarra Glen Reserve)
Summary:The girls started off the new season with our two captains Abi and Zara leading them onto the ground. The girls got off to a great start, kicking goals from all over the ground and a lot of girls new to the game getting lots of the ball. The girls played in the rain but it didn’t stop them from going in hard and fighting for the ball. The girls moved the ball around the ground well and made sure everyone had a touch.
Best Players: Summer Murphy, Zara Littlepage, Maeve Gill, Abi Woolf
Goals: Perri Goulding-1, Bridget Calderelli-2, Maeve Gill-2, Abi Woolf- 2, Heidi McHutchon-3, Summer Murphy-3, Zara Littlepage-3
Mitcham under 11 Black
Mitcham 0.0-0 V North Ringwood 5.3-33
Summary:The Under 11 Black side got the season underway with some real footy conditions at Walker Park against North Ringwood. The boys competed hard all day but lacked the polish of their opponents who transitioned the ball well. After three early goals to the Saints due to some loose checking and giving away free kicks in front of goal, the boys worked hard to limit the Saints with lots of attacks being repelled and heaps of tackles being laid. The defensive work improved as the game went on, and in the third quarter the boys held up well, got our positioning right and looked a lot better for it. We moved the ball forward nicely on a few occasions but weren’t able to convert any of the opportunities. In the end it was a loss to a good side, but the boys took plenty of positives away along with some good lessons for us to keep working on.
Best Players: Ryan M, Jaylen A, Tyson D, Caden S, Stephen S, Alex P, Patrick P
Mitcham under 11 Yellow
Mitcham 0.5-5 V East Ringwood 3.2-20
Summary: Wintery conditions greeted us for our Rd 1 clash against East Ringwood at Koonung Reserve. With a couple of players out, we called up 2 younger siblings to help field a full team, thanks Oscar and Charlie. We dominated possession and had the ball in our attacking half of the ground for most of the game, however we couldn’t break through for a goal. Conversely, East Ringwood got reward for effort when they went forward and was the difference in the end
Best Players: James Wilson, Jack Ewison, Mason Porter, Will Serong, Daniel Chin, Jackson Doherty
Mitcham under 12 Girls
Blackburn 0.0-0 V Mitcham Tigers 9.5-59
Summary: First game of the year for the girls and we were all excited and scared to see what the day held for us as it was very cold and rainy. Half of the under 12 girls had played last year and the other half hadn't played before, which was really exciting for us from a coaching perspective. The game started off really well with us getting a goal, we were stoked to even be on the board. We ended up having 9 goals with 8 goal kickers which is an amazing result and shows the girls love working as a team. Congratulations to our goal kickers Lauren, Hayley, Savannah, Alessia, Mathilda A, Matilda R, Charlotte, Stella. Also big shootout to all the girls playing their first game, everyone put in so much effort and we couldn't be happier. Jess with her tackling, Taya with her ruck work, Gemma with her attack on the footy and many more positive things we took out of the game.
Go Tiges!!
Goals: 2 – Lauren, 1 – Hayley, Savannah, Alessia, Mathilda A, Matilda R, Charlotte, Stella
Mitcham under 12
Mitcham 5.5-35 V Vermont 5.4-34
Summary: We kicked the season off with a Grand Final replay against Vermont, the weather didn’t miss out on the occasion with heavy rain greeting the first bounce. Vermont jumped out to a handy lead, with 3 players either sick or injured, we required a big effort from the boys. Good decision making allowed the boys to win back control of key moments in the game. Congratulations to Ryan Paravicini for 50 game and well done to Jack & Peter for terrific first games at Mitcham. Proud of the boys good grace with their come from behind win. Today was our first small step in 2018.
Best Players: Hudson, Peter, Danny, Jack, Hamish, Luke M, Ryan M and Ryan P
Mitcham under 13
Teams: Mitcham V KnoX
Summary: R1 on a wet deck at Knox started with last year’s B grade Knox out to a 2 goal lead quite early. Our effort went up a notch at half time but not enough to stop their onballers & talls up forward.
Best Players: Liam, Max, Steven
Mitcham under 14 Girls
Rowville Knights 5.3-33 V Mitcham Tigers 2.2-14
Summary: Mitcham girls on the road travelling to Rowville in very challenging weather conditions, however the girls played very well considering some girls have never played football before. Today we got beat by a better side on the day, it’s a learning curb for the girls and I, and we will bounce back.
Best Players: O.Skerry, J McCormack, L.Carroll, G.Simpson, M.Serong
Goals: Kiara Alizzi 1 Stephanie Makao 1
Mitcham under 14
Teams: Lilydale Vs Mitcham
Summary: Round 1 saw us take on Lilydale at their ground. In the first quarter Lilydale kept pushing the ball forward. Our backline held strong and when we got it going forward we couldn’t make the most of our opportunities and we found ourselves down a goal at quarter time. The second and third quarter were much like the first, an under siege backline that held up well. Our forwards started to get their hands on the footy but we couldn’t convert kicking 0.5 to their 3.7 in those 2 quarters. The last quarter started with us 5 goals down, but I knew if we just played a bit smarter and if the boys lifted their effort we could still pinch a win. Tonnam and Jack started it off with plenty of drive out of the midfield. With 2 goals to Jasper, and James and Tonnam each getting a goal we were right back in it. Unfortunately, Lilydale were able to get another goal and we couldn’t get over the line. Even though we lost, I’m very proud of the boys for how they fought on in the fourth quarter. We now know the standard that we can play at and if we can play 4 quarters of footy like that, we will be able to beat any team that comes up against us.
Best Players: Team Effort
Goals : Jasper 2, Austin, James, Tonnam
Mitcham under 15
Mitcham 1.3-9 v 2.19-31
Summary: A tough defensive game was played with goals hard to find for both teams, in fact the only goals kicked were all in the final quarter. The back line worked very hard all day to keep the pressure on the opposition, forcing them to make errors creating minor scores all day. Next game we will need the forward line to get more active so we can sing the song.
Best Players: Sam Balman, Soloman Barnes
Goals: Wil Henderson
Mitcham under 16 Girls
Mooroolbark 15.20-110 V Mitcham 0.2-2
Summary: The under 16 girls played Mooroolbark at Kiloran Park and based on the practice match results we were expecting a tough match. Even though the results didn’t go our way I couldn’t be happier with the girl’s efforts throughout the game especially with six girls out of thirteen in their first competitive game of football. Big thanks to Alli from the under 14’s for coming and playing with us after her game.
Best Players: Hayley Petdro, Jess Grace, Riley Holloway, Georgia Harman and Finn Wharton.
