Under 8 Mitcham Yellow by Craig Love (Coach)
Today we played Norwood Purple at Quambee Reserve in good conditions. The boys had some great passages of play, particularly linking up with consecutive handballs, then finding Mitcham targets up forward. Well done Mitchell for being awarded player of the week. Thank you to Jack for helping out from our Mitcham Black team and well done to Billy, Blake and Declan for helping out the Mitcham Black team later in the day. It’s been a privilege and pleasure to coach my little men. So proud how we stuck together all year, turned up to training and developed our skills. Thank you to Dave Doherty (Team Manager), Michael Sleap (Runner) and my gorgeous wife Sally Love (Trainer) and all the parents for volunteering for goal umpire, umpire escort, snake and oranges duties.
GO TIGERS!

It was our last game for the season and in the words of Alex Lloyd " what a year it has been'. Billy, Blake and Declan (from under 8's Yellow) were helping us out meaning we were only one short, but you would not have known as our endeavour and team play was top-notch! In the first half Cody playing on ball started on fire along with Dylan on the wing. The run and carry again was great to see. Ollie to Zac M in the backline was pin point and Blake's attack off the half back was bone crunching. In the second half Jack and Zac M were on top of the centre clearances and a goal over the shoulder from Billy was a highlight. To all the players, whether you played one game or the full season, thanks for pulling on the boots and giving it a crack, it was great to see your improvement during the season. To all the parents that helped out, whether it was bringing oranges or lollies through to holding a clip board or waving the flags, a big thanks!

In our last game of the season, Archer, Rishi, Tarran and Cooper shared the captaincy. The boys started very slow indeed and kicked only the one score for the quarter. The next 3 quarters they were asked by their coaches to find something within themselves and to show us what they have learned in footy this year, the words of the great John Kennedy from Hawthorn “Don’t think, do” and we were not disappointed. One of the best 3 quarters of football the young tigers have played all year. Billy was awarded the best on ground medal from the East Ringwood coach, and this was much deserved. Goals were scored by Morgan, Hamish and Rishi, all of them beauties. Best today were Roy, Tarran, Harley, Rishi, Archer, Cooper, Jett and Marco. Great year boys, now enjoy your 6 months off footy.

For our final match of the year we took on Vermont away from our home. Our captains for the day were Will Serong and Charlie Trollope, 2 boys who we had saved up our sleeve to make skipper. We were really keen to end the year on a high and piece together a four quarter effort. And boy oh boy did we deliver. Led by our captains, we dominated Vermont around the stoppages, moved the ball well and we also held our positions to effectively repel any Vermont attempt to attack. We played 4 quarters of really good football. The whole team contributed and it was the best way to finish a year full of learning. The song was sung loudly and proudly in the rooms afterwards not once but twice, with smiles ear to ear across everyone's faces, which is, at the end of the day why we play. Thanks boys, it's been a fun season. Thanks also to Steve, Mark, Saul, Stu for all of the work put in throughout the year. And to all the parents for chipping in, helping out, supporting the kids and the club. Your kids are great!

Today we journeyed out to Batterham Reserve to take on The Basin, for Gruffs 50th Game. The boys looked and acted switched on early today, running their own drills for warm up with plenty of voice. With top spot up for grabs, the boys were determined to put their best foot forward. The first quarter saw the Tigers come our firing kicking their best score for a first quarter, led by Hamish and Lachlan bursting out of the centre square. The second quarter was much the same as the first, these boys were on a mission, and nobody was getting in their way, Christian in the middle was a wrecking machine, with every Basin player within tackle distance fair game, not one Tigers player flinched going into a contest. The boys took a well-earned rest at half time, before the pressure and forward momentum continued in your third, and again in the fourth. Great effort boys, it was a great way to finish the regular season, now the real hard work starts...
Goals: Hamish 3, Aiden 2, Joshie 2, Tynan, Seb, Lachlan, Hudson, Luca, Luke M
Best: Christian, Hamish, Lachlan, Aiden, Tynan and Gruff
Final Score: Mitcham 13.9.87 d The Basin 0.0.0

Keeping Sth Belgrave to a behind for the game was no luck. Things will fall your way and against when you play this game, but most of its not luck. Every boy in this team is equal in importance to the game and the way we play it. This belief we take to the finals.
Final Score: Mitcham 7.7.49 d Sth Belgrave 0.1.1

Unfortunately we didn't win, but the good news is next week we play in our first ever final. I am really proud of the boys the way they have played thus far. We have had a lot of challenges, however the boys have always fought hard so they are really deserving to take their place in the finals. If there is any negative to come from today it is we didn't come out with a win for Fletcher and his 50th game milestone. Fletcher has been a great player since joining the club. His improvement across the years has been wonderful to watch and this year his level of improvement and skill has been exciting to watch. Like I do with many players, I start their careers in the back pocket because its the best position to learn how to play the game. And now Fletcher in 2017 has moved out of the back pocket and held his position comfortably as our dominant half back. Congrats Fletcher on your 50 games today. You had a ripper of a game. Looking forward to seeing you play like that next week. Next week we face Donvale. They are a good team but I think if we refocus and play our brand of footy that has won us 8 games this year, I am sure we come away with a win. Goal kickers: Jack 1, Nathan 1, JP 1.

The U14's hosted Lysterfield at Koonung Reserve. Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter we wasted our opportunities and failed to kick a major. The second quarter was a little better with the Tigers picking up our attack on the ball and kicking 3 goals into the wind whilst keeping our opposition goalless. The third quarter saw the Tigers move into top gear to slam on 4 goals to zero. In the final quarter both teams kicked 2 goals which meant the Tigers ran out comfortable victors by 43 points. Today's game was a hard earned victory and a great result for all the hard work we've put into training. To finish off the season with 2 really good team games was very pleasing. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out throughout the season and a special thank you to Geoff Jones, team manager, who did a power of work behind the scenes,. Thank you Geoff. Also thanks to Craig Giles and Glenn Newnham for all the organising throughout the season and last of all thanks to all the boys who showed character, never gave up and represented themselves and the club with great dignity all season.

What a way to finish off the home and away season, a home game and the opportunity to finish off as minor premiers. The day looked like it was going to be a wet one and it was critical for us to play to our structures and fine tune parts of our game in preparation for the finals. We still had to put pressure on the opposition when required and when we had possession we had to use our spread to allow us clean entry into the forward line. The first bounce it was a bit of a scramble with Rowville going hard as expected but our mids worked back and with our half backs pushing forward we were able to scramble it out of the centre, go forward and score. GOOD START. The next we took total control out of the middle and with slick hands Horse was put out in the clear and we had our second. The control of the game seemed to be ours already. The boys from then on didn’t let up, continually pushing forward and giving our forwards plenty of scoring opportunities. We ended up with 6 majors with Roville remaining scoreless for the quarter. The second was just as impressive with our defence standing up to all advances, led by Tommy and Maxxy with great back up from TK, Spitta, Alex and Aidan. Our forwards were threatening with Cam marking everything and Timmy (now at FF) presenting at every occasion. After the main break it became a bit of a training run with Rowville now fielding an undermanned team due to injury. We tried to reduce our side on the field, but to Rowville’s credit their runner told us to field a full team as our preparation was more important. This was welcomed by us and to Rowville I say thank you.
The rest of the game, we used the ball well and got to space for the switch was encouraging. We kicked away by a massive margin, even as the rain poured down (which was pleasing) and ended up winners by about 25 goals.
Mentions go to a few 4 quarter efforts who really put a stamp on the game and led by example, Horse with 4 goals from the centre, Tommy the unpassable out of defence, Maxxy his sidekick, Adrian with his blistering run from defence and out of the middle, Jaydos Mr consistent and Timmy our new small-tall full forward. Until next game (first final). Go Tiges!!!!!!!!!!!!!
