Under 8 Black by Eddy Mitchell (Coach)
Our first early game for the season and the boys were up and about even though the parents were a little lacklustre. It was cold with a chilly breeze but the boys were on fire putting into action what we have learnt on the training track. Oscar was giving us first use of the ball in the ruck and Zac C and Cody were sending it up forward. The goals were shared around with Billy, Zac C, Zac M, Coby, Cody, Ollie and Declan all chipping in. And the backline was rock solid with Thomas, Tom, Connor, Declan and Jack taking control. Using our voice and being first for the ball was a key focus. Along with trying to have a disposal on your opposite side, which was great to see the boys giving it a try. Ollie was successful on several occasions and this awarded him the medal for the day, great work Ollie. A really good game and a great team effort. A big thanks to Thomas, Declan, Darcy and Billy for all helping out from under eight yellow.
Best -Tom, Billy, Jack, Zac C and Thomas
Medal winner - Ollie.

Our boys took on a very strong team in The Basin at home this week led by our first time Captain William Jesse who tried his heart out from the front. After a close game on Anzac Day, we knew this was going to be no different. We started strong in the first quarter getting plenty of clearances from the middle which resulted in a few goals, however from there on we lost our run and were second to the ball, with most of the clearances in the second and third quarters going The Basins way. As always we had plenty of kids trying but not enough wanting the ball first. Our biggest error this week was holding on to the ball to long, and not passing it off to our teammates quicker, before being surrounded by the opposition. Our Two Brothers Cafe award winners this week were Noah Quinlan and Dan Grace who both had some great running play. Our Mitcham Medal Player of the Day this round was James Watt. James had a great day in the ruck and won just about all of the taps, and played some great football all over the ground. Today’s game was a big learning curve for our boys on how to use the ball. The Basin played a great game sharing the ball around at the right times with their teammates.

Mitcham Black U10 played Scoresby, led by Steve and Patrick Phet, the boys looked on their game despite having several away. With multiple goals to Jesse and the boys playing as a team they controlled most of the game. The boys are really beginning to show how good they are coming home with a really strong performance.

On a chilly but dry morning we took on neighboring Blackburn on their home deck. After a relatively poor performance by our standards last week, our focus was on peeling it right back, getting back to basics and making it all about our effort. Our captains Henry M and Angus are quiet boys but never shirk a contest and always give 100% effort. Real lead by example types. We were enormously undersized compared to Blackburn, but I am pleased to say we gave effort all day. It was a great response and needs to be our baseline for the remainder of the season. Blackburn moved the ball really well in transition, but we matched them for much of the game and pieced together some really impressive passages of play. Well done boys, I'm really interested to see where this effort can take us.

Today we played Vermont at Vermont Recreational Ground and for the second week in a row we played against the side second on the ladder. This time the result was very different. Vermont came out very strongly getting the scoring going, and although the Tigers had many forward bursts, were unable to put the score on the board. Missing two of our important players really started to show, both on the scoreboard and pressure on the opposition. Trailing by just a goal at ¾ time, the tigers hit the scoreboard quickly with a great goal from Hamish, however Vermont answered with 2 more goals to run away with the win. There was great defending from Ryan M and Cooper, but unfortunately Vermont were too strong on the day. It was a good wakeup call for the boys and hopefully we can hit the training track hard this week and put in a mighty performance against Wantirna South.
Goal: Hamish
Best: Christian, Hamish, Ryan M and Cooper.
Final Score: Vermont 3.2.20 d Mitcham 1.2.8

Great win by the boys today. I thought after quarter time, the boys moved the footy really well and didn't panic. They controlled the game for most of the day. It was great seeing JP and James back in the game today. They both played really well today. Congratulations to Liam and Dan T on their 50 games. Liam had his best game of the year today. He laid some great tackles, worked really hard when it was his turn to go for the footy, and won himself a few kicks as well. Liam applied some wonderful forward pressure that resulted in us creating scoring opportunities. Well-done Liam. Dan T also had his best game of the year. It was great to see him kick a goal on his 50th and his celebration was even better. When Dan T is up and going like he was today he is very exciting to watch. Well-done Dan. Today’s game was important for us to win to keep our push for a finals race. We are going to need to continue to win, as we are only 4 points clear of Donvale. One loss could see us drop out. Its important the boys turn up to training and continue to learn and get better at executing our game plan. Congratulations to Liam and Dan on their 50th, and to all the boys on a great win today. Not only was it a celebration to the boys on their 50th, but huge congratulations to Dan Newnham on kicking his FIRST goal EVER in his footy career.
Goals: Dan N 1, Dan T 1, Luca 1 and James 1.
Final score: Mitcham 4 3 27 d East Ringwood White 3 6 24
Under 14 Girls by Leigh Walters (Coach)
The under 14 girls took on the top of the table Donvale at Donvale Reserve. With a few girls out of the side with illness and injury we were unfortunately down to 13 girls for this game. Donvale with a strong breeze favouring them made the most of their opportunities in the first quarter. After ¼ time the girls played with a lot more passion and were prepared to go in and get the ball. While they suffered a loss the commitment and endeavour to keep on trying was evident from the sidelines especially since we didn’t have a bench to rotate from. As a team we will learn from it and continue to improve. Big thanks to Richard Mapson for filling in as our trainer for the last two weeks.
Best: Sabrina, Gemma, Megan, Riley, Marissa and Olivia

Wow - what a game!! We played Kilsyth in Round 3 at home on the 30th April. The score that day was 1.2 8 v 16.21 117. Fast forward 8 weeks to todays score 4.11 35 v 4. 8 32. What an awesome improvement by us!!! This week we had Tommy Miles and Josh Bell from the seniors come down and ran some training drills with the boys. A massive thanks to these lads for helping out the boys and instilling some confidence in our team. On Friday night, Ethan’s mum Nicky (Black Belt 3rd Dan in Karate) inspired some confidence in the boys with some tackling drills with the boys. This week our tackling was amazing! Thanks again Nicky!! Every week our team is improving and on field success is all bit a sniff away. I feel that you boys are absolute champions after the efforts we witnessed today. On the way home, I stopped at 7-11 for my obligatory coffee. One the Kilsyth parents came up to me and stated that they were quietly hoping that we would win. He also stated that it wasn’t that they played badly but we played so bloody good and our intensity and speed around the ball was unbelievable. Best on ground; Julian - Absolutely tremendous effort today - your Grandfather would have been very proud!! Matt M - On fire today Matt, great endeavour at the ball and sensational defending! Jack - You really stepped it up a notch today Jack! Great second and third efforts at the ball!! Michael Mc - Unbelievable game today Michael, your efforts at the ball were truly sensational to watch. Rylan - A player that never gives up! Great effort in the centre today Rylan!! As I said after the game - all the boys deserve an award this week!!
Final Score: Kilsyth 4.11.35 d Mitcham 4.8 32

The Under 17’s took on Knox in a top of the table clash at Walker Park. With several boys away, it was going to be a challenge. Our boys got the jump early and had control of the game for the remainder. Poor kicking at goal left the door ajar for Knox who challenged in the last quarter but the boys got the job done comfortably in the end. Good games by Pows, Big Cam, Jaydos, Sean and Benny to name a few. Big thanks to Mark who took the reins today while Cam was away. Well-done Mark, great job!
Final Score: Mitcham 6.19.55 d Knox 5.3.33
