Today we played Croydon South at Quambee Reserve in foggy conditions. The boys played in front, shared the ball and used their voices for all 4 quarters. Thank you to Jack and Tom from Mitcham Black for helping out. Well done to Haydn for getting player of the week and Winning the Two Brothers award. Great team effort today. Well-done Tigers!
Best Players: Haydn, Riley, Billy, Cooper and Charlie

Our first game of winter and the conditions were cold and foggy, much like the coaches and supporters heads after a great night at the Comedy Gala. Zac M adapted early to the conditions and was firing while Dylan was doing his best impersonation of Bernie 'Superboot' Quinlan with his loan-kicking boots on.
Oscar took a contender for market of year with a courageous pack mark, while Tom pickpocketed the opposition to almost kick goal of the day. The boy’s team play continues to improve and their handballing is taking the next step, a great example of this was Iggy's handballing one off the deck to set up a great piece of play going forward. Xavier's smother and Jack's marking was also a highlight of the backline. With some boys unavailable we were helped out by Preston, Cooper, Thomas, Billy and Blake from Mitcham yellow, which also allowed us to help out the opposition with some great sportsmanship shown by our players.
After a lot of boys played 8 quarters of football, I’m sure like me they are looking forward to a well-earned weeks break.
Super team effort

Cold foggy Sunday morning for our young tigers. Boys played a good game today putting into practice some of the training we have done over the last few weeks. There was lots of running and lots of looking for each other, which created lots of opportunity both forward and back. Our best today were Hamish and Morgan, both boys played well all over the ground creating play and kicking goals. A very good team effort.
Goals, Rishi, Cooper, Jett and Mason
Best Hamish, Morgan, Cooper, Tarren, Archer, Billy and Lewis.

Today we played Heathmont. For the first time the girls played on a full ground, so it was a new experience for all of them. For 2 quarters we played like a well-oiled team, full of fire and talent, unfortunately we allowed the other team to get back into the game by the third quarter. Much to my enjoyment they lifted again in the last quarter to finish the game strongly. A great team effort, much enjoyed by the parents watching, well done girls, you keep getting better each week. Well-done Tigers!

On the chilliest morning so far this season we took on a very powerful and skillful team in Rowville at our home away from home. Jack Ewison was captain, just reward for a consistently good season. We found ourselves down on the imaginary scoreboard early due to some individual brilliance from a Rowville player, but the boys were cracking in and playing with great spirit. We jiggled things around at half time and our third quarter was exceptional, so good that we had made up the deficit and held a slender lead at 3-quarter time. We ran out of legs late, but our effort was tremendous all game. We had the same amount of scoring opportunities as the other team, but just couldn't capitalize. Our boys remained disciplined and stood up for themselves against a very physical opposition, but we walked off with our heads held high! Good games from Jack, James, Riley, Heath, Mason, Will, Ty and Henry T.

Mitcham U10 Black took on Norwood in cold, foggy conditions. Hard to describe the match as we really could not see what was happening. The game was scoreless at half time and I think the cold conditions took a toll on our boys with Norwood kicking a couple in the third and fourth quarters. Great captains game from Inti and Tong who both really attacked the ball. Probably the hardest game I have ever coached, as I could not see anything for most of the game. Next week off for the boys to regroup. (Editors note: Maybe your head was also foggy after the Comedy Night Pete!)

Today saw Lachlan Gilchrist, Ryan Maaskant and Ryan O’Sullivan play their 50th games against Lysterfield Teal. It was the second time we have played them this year. It was extremely foggy at the start of the game, with the coaches bench finding it difficult to see the other side of the ground. Lysterfield came out firing kicking the first score of the match, before Hamish kicked a ripper out of the pack. The second and third quarters saw our very new ruckmen start to understand their jobs and as a result we managed to keep the Lysterfield side scoreless, whilst kicking 4 goals 4 points. The final quarter saw Lysterfield claw a bit back kicking 1 goal three to our 1 goal 1. It was great to see all the boys lift in support of their milestone teammates and getting a good win, well done Tigers.
Goals: Hamish, Will, Aiden, Luke M, Hudson, Sam
Best: Ryan M, Lachlan, Ryan O, Luke M, Hamish, Sasha and Evan

Round 8 clash v Top of the table Montrose proved again that even with a loss the belief this team has sets them up for battle after battle no matter who they face. Leaving the ground keeping the 1st place Montrose scoreless in the last enforcers that belief.
Best: Liam, Charlie B, Zac & Lachlan C
Final Score: Montrose 7.5.47 d Mitcham 3.7.25

Today we ventured up to Montrose on a cold morning and the day turned out to not be our friend. The first quarter the girls really struggled to get the ball down our end and the opposition's pressure was very good. However after quarter time the girls really stepped up and ran hard at the ball for the rest of the game. Although the scoreboard was not on our side I thought after quarter time all the girls did something and it was the first time all the girls had touches and made an inspect! (Woooo). Well done to Phobes on her great attack on the footy and chasing down her player, tackling her and then being rewarded a free kick. Matilda Ridgway played a very fast game always attacking the footy - well done, Amber ran hard all day and didn't give up despite having a sore wrist and it was great to see Keyani get into the game with a mark and a few kicks! Great efforts by Lauren & Hannah when doing the kick outs and last but not least well done to Taryn who kicked our only goal, but a fantastic one from the boundary! It was very exciting and we were all so happy to see how well the girls celebrated for her kicking her first goal. She played well all day and it was a well-deserved goal.
There's always next game! Well-done girls.

Really proud of the way the boys played today. Although we didn't get the win, the boys showed plenty of fight and improvement in various aspects of their game. I felt as though we controlled a lot of the play, particularly when UFTG were trying to clear it out of our forward line. Due to the pressure our forwards and mids were putting on the opposition, we kept pushing forward to goals, however we didn't capitalise on our chances to kick a score. Unfortunately when they did clear the play had opened up and they transitioned the ball easier than I would have liked and scored when the opportunity arose. The boys are training really well at the moment and it is showing in our games with a lot of improvement. I think its important to not forget that on Sunday we had a lot of players out as well as players carrying injuries into the game. Put all this against the best side in the division, and the win was always going to be hard. With all this being said, and with a full team, I look forward to the next time we play UFTG. Goal kickers Jack 2.

The under 14 girls played against Mooroolbark at Walker Park. The game was a physical game with our tackling pressure being first rate during the game. We had a number of courageous displays within the Jazmyn being injured in the opening ruck contest of the game and Bianca also coming off after being injured hurt in almost identical circumstances. Both these girls came back on the ground later in the game and tried their best after the earlier incidents. While we managed to have most of the play for the game we failed to capitalise on our opportunities and lost by 13 points. Even though we lost the game I was extremely proud of the spirit in which they played the game. Thanks to Meg Serong and Charlotte Ajani for playing in the under 14’s as well as the under 12’s. You both played great games.
Better players: Marissa, Olivia, Gemma, Stephanie, Georgia, Bianca and Riley
Final Score: Mooroolbark 4.1.25 d Mitcham 2.0.12

A milestone game this week - Dash’s 50th games; Well-done Dash - great achievement. I believe the boys turned a corner during this match. They actually started to play as a team!! We started off very slow, and allowed Vermont to get a 7-goal lead by quarter time. The lesson we learnt from the start was that we just cannot let our player run free!! The boys seemed to lack any desire to win the ball!! The second quarter was a much different team however; we showed our opponent that we had a desire to win the ball. We scored 3 goals this quarter. The third quarter really scared Vermont, they started to play undisciplined footy and the umpire rewarded the bad behaviour. They were frustrated because we were hard at the footy!! We scored 4 goals to their 3. Unfortunately, the 4th quarter didn’t go our way and Vermont got the chocolates. This said, I firmly believe that our lads can start winning games now but only if they believe in themselves!! Don’t forget Pizza night Friday night after training - would love to see all parents come down for a feed and a chat.
Best on ground - Rylan (great intensity at the ball)
Notable mentions - Julian, Dash, Luke and Sam
Final Score: Vermont 20.16.136 d Mitcham 8.4.52

Once again we took on Norwood at their home ground and the boys knew they would be in for a physical challenge. We asked the boys to be aggressive at the contest and to try and take control of the game early. The game started 20 minutes late with both teams a bit confused as to which way they were kicking (we knew but Norwood were a bit confused). The umpires had to stop the game due to the confusion and allowed Norwood to position themselves properly. Once the game got going our mids attacked straight away and fed our forwards with plenty of footy. Cam P was running riot up forward with Timmy, Jaydos and Horse all getting themselves majors along the way. We had control from then on, but our ball use was a bit sloppy on occasions. We forgot to back ourselves with the ball and we missed a few opportunities to put players in better positions on occasions. We never gave Norwood the opportunity to challenge us but we did drop the pressure off a bit, which is something we can’t afford to do against better teams. It was a solid win in the end and we should be happy with the win. A big shout out goes to our fearless full back Zebby, who consistently attacks the contest, regardless of what might happen, and today he copped a huge whack to the beak and his nose ended up all over his face. True Zebby fashion he came off with blood all over the place but with a huge grin as if nothing really happened. Good luck with the rehab Zeb. Mentions go to a few outstanding contributors today led by Jaydos (again), Maxxy, Tommy, Gilesy, Cam P, Timmy, Benny and Horse. Well done to all players today, it was a great win. Go Tiges….Don’t forget about the bye next week.
