Under 8 Yellow by Craig Love (Coach)
Today we played Mitcham Black at Quambee Reserve in wet and cold conditions. The boys had some great passages of play, sharing the ball, using their voices, being first to the ball, great pressure and there were some great goal celebrations. Well done to Preston for kicking his first goal for the season! Riley kicked some nice goals on the run and shared the ball on many occasions, Billy and Declan attacked the ball ferociously and Haydn and Ruben applied some great pressure to the opposition. It was a tight contest all day and the match ups were very even across the ground. The game was played in great spirit and it was fantastic to see all of the boys get together after the game and sing the Mitcham Tigers song as one! Very proud coaches! Well-done Tigers!
Best Players: Declan, Riley, Charlie, Cooper, Haydn and Blake

In cold, wet, slippery conditions the boys were all fired up playing against Mitcham Yellow and keen for a good showing. The boys team work was fantastic from the word go, sharing the ball from hand and foot. Both Zac M and Coby showed great courage in a marking contest with only eyes for the ball. While Oscar, Cody, Ollie and Connor teamed up for a great passage of play. In the second half Jack and Iggy gave us first use of the ball and Zac C "The running machine" had some great centre clearances and shots on goal. Jack the swingman played well both in defence and forward kicking a couple of goals along with Cody and Zac M. It was a close and exciting game with some fantastic efforts from both sides with some great passages of team play. Both teams joined up to sing the song with vigour! Well done to all the Mitcham under 8’s!
Goals: Cody 2, Jack 2, Zac M 2, Zac C 2, Tom

U9 Yellow had a grand final rematch against Knox Red this week. Our boys were up to the task all game and were the better team right from the outset with 3 shots at goal within the first couple of minutes. Unfortunately the boys could not convert which ended up being the theme for the whole game. Our misses allowed Knox into the game and the capitalised very well when they could get it in their forward line. Our players showed a lot more intent to get the ball this week, but still have plenty of room for improvement to be the first to the 50 50 ball. Again we show some great set plays with the boys clearing from the middle and linking up with handballs to drive it deep into the forward line. Our Two Brothers Cafe awards this week went to two boys that give their all every game. They get in the packs, take marks, control the backline and push the ball deep into the fowardline. On one or two occasions they also kicked a goal for themselves. The first award went to Josh Dakic and the second went Ryan McConnell. Our Captain today Thomas "Woody' Woodhead lead from the front from the first bounce and played an exceptional game. Woody started the game in the centre of the ground which were he loves it; right on the thick of things. When a pack formed or there was a fight for the ball Woody was generally the one under the pack. When moved into the backline there was hardly a ball that got past him. This endeavour and effort won Thomas the Mitcham Football Club Player of the Week Medal. This was one of the toughest games our boys have played and they can all hold their heads up very high for the effort and spirit they played the game in. Great game boys. Go Tigers!

Mitcham Black travelled to Forest Hill with something to prove. Forest Hill had beaten us in the lightening premiership. With 5 boys away it looked like a genuine challenge but led by Jacob one of our newest recruits the boy showed they were switched on from the start with tackling pressure that was terrific. With 3 goals to Gus and a goal to Riley it was a great effort by the boys - that's three great games in a row. Great games from LeBron, Gabe, Jesse, Tong, Nay, Paddy and our captain Jacob, just to name a few but it was a great team effort. Beginning to look with a team playing for each other and following instructions.

In surprisingly good conditions given the overnight rain, we took on yet another tall, quick and talented team in Waverley Blues. The boys took charge of the pre-game rules and looked primed to take the game up to Waverley. We were competitive for most of the game and had our moments where we dominated play, but our ball use going forward let us down, as did some crucial plays where Waverley Blues bossed our boys at the contest. Our captain for the round, Heath Fox, was fantastic yet again running from stoppage after stoppage with ball in hand. Jacoby was a great target up forward and proved a handful for the Waverley Blues defenders. Charlie played a disciplined team role game, Jack battled hard all game and was tough in the trenches, Will ran at the opposition and took the game on, Dylan played key position roles well and Angus provided good rebound from the backline, but we couldn't kick start our running game which has been the feature of our play the past few weeks. I love these lessons and I know the boys will take a lot out of today's game.
Under 10 Girls by Darren Clark (Coach)
Today we played Rowville Hawks at home. It was a cold hard game for the girls and like usual the girls all played exceptionally well and I found it hard to find a player to give my award to. We started strong and it was a fair matchup between the teams. I was most impressed with the level of tackling this week. The umpiring made for a well-played flowing game with plenty of kicks and goals going to both teams. A great effort and we will look forward to having a great game next week. Well-done Tigers!

This week the Under 11’s headed off to Batterham Reserve to take on The Basin Bears. Whilst the boys controlled the ball and territory for much of the game, number 19 from the Basin managed to keep the Basin in the contest with just 2 goals 5 kicked by the tigers in the first three quarters. The last quarter saw the boys rewarded for their effort with 3 goals 1 added to the score.
Goals: Aiden (3), Hudson & Ryan M
Best Players: Ethan, Aiden, Lachie, Hamish & Hudson

1 goal 10 was our score at half time v Lysterfield at Walker Park on Sunday. Even with the lead the boys looked frustrated that reward hadn't come with our output. A reminder that keeping the intensity up for the remainder of the game would be rewarded with our scoring shots becoming goals not behinds.
Best: Xavier, Sam, Oscar, Liam & Ashton.
Final Score: Mitcham 7.15.57 d Lysterfield 1.0.6

Today the girls played Kilsyth. The day was a battle as Kilsyth's pressure and tackling were very good. We struggled to move the ball and get it down our end which resulted in a loss. However Meg Serong battled extremely hard all day and even came back onto the ground after a head clash, Hannah never stopped attacking the football all day, we saw Jess take her first ever mark in a game which was great and Taya has improved out of sight playing in the ruck. Bad luck girls! Always next week.

Courageous win by the boys today. Without Lachie and Aiden stepping in to give us a hand. I have no doubt the result may have been different. Thanks to the boys in helping contribute to our win. It was much appreciated by all. We had our backs against the wall in the first quarter, and with a number of injuries and sick boys, it looked as though the boys playing had already given in to not winning the game due to our low number of U13 boys. As I am sure everyone heard at first quarter, my emotions ran a little high, and with some stern words from myself, the next quarter saw the boys improve. It wasn't until after the main break that the boys started to control the game. There were some great contributors to the game all day. Dan T and Dan N battled tirelessly through the midfield and down back. Nicko was busting packs open and winning his own footy and Jack maintained his consistency and had another brilliant game. I was proud of the way the boys took the emotion out of the game and only had eyes for the ball, which inevitably got us the win. Lastly the boys played the ground brilliantly which helped seal the win.
Goal kickers, JP 3, Nathan 3, Aiden 1.

The U14's ventured out to Lysterfield on a cold Sunday afternoon. The team has played some good footy over the last couple of weeks and continued today with a very even spread of contributors. The back line played in front all game enabling us to drive the ball forward all day. Our marking around the ground was the best for the year and our teamwork was also very good all game. Well done boys a much deserved win in which every player played their role.

Last week against Lysterfield the lads showed us a glimpse of what they can do. The first quarter was a ripper, we had 9 scoring shots at goals as opposed to their 2. It was great to watch, however as we know you cannot win games by just winning one quarter. This week was a total reversal. We started off and allowed Knox to have 12 scoring shots at goals in the first quarter. This meant that we were chasing an 8-goal lead going into the break. The second and third quarters we allowed them to score another 8 goals. To our credit - the boys had 3 scoring shots during the second. At the third quarter break, I asked the lads to lift and show us what they can do. We scored 2 goals and severely restricted their game plan. When our lads are on, it’s a joy to watch. We saw some awesome tackling with lots of second efforts for the ball. Another major difference is that the lads were accountable and built a solid defence. Special mentions this week:
Ethan - this young lad just never gives up! Great work rate and never afraid of a contest.
Hamish - played on ball this week and absolutely owned it with great second, third and forth efforts at the ball.
Michael Mc - all class! Really dominated in the midfield!!
Riley - Started off injured and wasn’t going to play - came on and kicked a goal (and earned himself some cash from his Dad). Great effort Riley!!
I think all you lads just need to realise how good you can be - as long as we work hard for the entire games.

Today we took on Rowville at home in what was a strongly contested game, even though the scores don’t really show that. The game was hard fought all day, but our defence stood up all day and the mids pushed back helping out in defense. The forwards worked really well after half time, keeping the forward line open and with constant supply through the middle we were able to rack up a big score finishing with a 100 + point win. The game had its moments with Rowville showing plenty of aggression, but our boys stood up to all challenges thrown at them and stood tall around their teammates when the heat was on. The boys are playing great football when they stick to the game plan and the confidence is growing as the season gets closer to finals’. We must maintain this momentum to carry us deep into the finals. Mentions go to Jaydos, Jules, Sean, Maxxy, Pows and Horse for great 4-quarter efforts today. The whole team again is worthy of mentions as everyone played their role today and were all instrumental in the win today. Well-done boys. Go Tiges!!!!!!
