Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
Today the young cubs played a very spirited match against Montrose Red. The boys shared the ball around early and were on the board in the first two minutes of the game with 2 quick goals. Handballing in our team this year and sharing the ball has been a big focus and this was clearly evident today. The boys played very well for four quarters, with an emphasis of winning the ball, and being first to the contest. Todays medal was awarded to our Captain Joshua. Josh kicked our first goal today, and played exceptionally well both forward and back. Our other best players in no particular order were Harrison, Tarran, Morgan, Marco, Joel and Roy (Who kicked a bag of 3). We also were happy to have Noah Quinlan play for us today after a brief holiday, and Charlie Cruz from the Yellow team. Both kids played very well, and Charlie has played 3 or 4 games for us this year when our numbers have been light. Great game this week by all team members, and looking forward to our final game of the season for the under 8 Mitcham Black Tigers.
Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
The Under 8 Yellow team had a bye and will be back into the thick of it for the final round of the year this Sunday.
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
Riley Downes was our captain today as we took on Scoresby on their home deck. We were lucky enough to be able to play on the whole ground which was a great experience for the boys. All of the boys played great games today. In a see sawing game up until three quarter time, we were able to run away with it in the last quarter. Charlie Trollope had an awesome game and is hitting a rich vein of form as the season goes on. He capped off his game with a great goal in front of his cousin and family, which also got the crowd up and about. Charlie was awarded the Mitcham medal. Alexander had a massive 2nd half in the ruck and was pivotal in getting the ball going towards our goal. He won clearance after clearance and spoon-fed the runners with delightful handballs. He received a Buffet Hut award for his tremendous game. Tyson Darmody has been working hard on his decision-making and use of the ball. Today he went with his first option and it paid dividends as he opened up the play with decisive ball use. Well done Tyson, the hard work is paying off. He received a Two Brothers award for his game. Our captain Riley received a Panelen's award for his awesome game, which included a goal and one of the most blistering runs I've seen on the footy field. Well done today Rizzle. CJ received a Two Brothers award. CJ is working hard on the training track, and is not far away from being rewarded on game day. Magical Max Irvine had a cracking 4-quarter game and was in everything with his gut running and superior reading of the play. Max kicked a goal from the boundary line and was a great lead up target in the forward line and terrific sweeper across halfback. He also received a Two Brothers award for his game today. Well-done guys, 1 more to go.
Under 9 Black (Coach: Peter Ajani)
Mitcham Black under 9 played Norwood in great winter conditions. The game was played in a great manner with both teams giving it their all. Our boys continued their resurgence, led by Pat the Bulldozer, Dec and Sean, the boys set out to create a contest. With the best game of his short career, Jesse set the standard to win the Mitcham medal. Sean was also awarded the medal for a great game. Charlie was unstoppable and was in everything. There were plenty of goals, Felix kicked 5 goals and goals to Gabriel and Jesse and more... With only 1 more game to go the boys are finally playing to their potential. Well-done boys.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
After a late night being the only Tigers team to win at Etihad on Saturday, the Under 10’s came out firing against the Ferntree Gully Eagles at Walker Park. For the second week in a row the boy’s teamwork and hitting of targets was exceptional. The defense is getting tighter and tighter every week with the boys not allowing any points against them again. Next week will prove to be another challenge however taking on the Glen Waverley Rovers for the second time this year.
Awards: Felix, Sasha, Samuel, Aiden for goal of the day and Ryan O won the Shapes Sharpshooter
Goals: Ryan O 3, Aiden 2, Sam 2, Joshy 2, Ryan M 2, Seb
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
Today we were up against the Green and Gold of Bayswater. A quick flurry of goals gave us a 6-goal lead at quarter time. The rest of the game became a very physical contest, but it did not stop us from playing the sort of football we like to play. Our lads know that you do not win games of footy if the ball is not your main focus and this sort of game will certainly hold us in good stead over the coming weeks as we face the physical and mental pressures of finals football. Well-done boys! Best of luck to Lachlan Dane who is heading off to Scotland! We are going to miss you mate!
Best: Hudson, Ned, Noah, Alexi, Luke, Steven, Oscar & Charlie B

Under 12 (Coach: Jason Philactides)
Unfortunately today did not go the way we would have liked. The boys efforts over the past month have been excellent, but today we unfortunately we weren't at out best. It goes to show that when we are slightly off our game we become vulnerable. However, I was really pleased in the second half of the game where the boys stood up for themselves, as a few of the Bayswater players were trying to be physical. But in true tiger spirit, they continued to put their head over the ball and win their fair share of the footy. What I was really pleased with today was I saw some great improvement in some of the boys. Mac's game in the second half was brilliant. His ability to beat his opponent one on one and along with his second and third efforts made him an automatic selection for the encouragement award this week. He trained brilliant on Friday and followed it through in his game today. Well-done Mac. There weren't to many opportunities given to Nicko up forward today however, when it did come his way, he made his presence known with some wonderful tackles, marking, and an outstanding opportunistic goal. Nicko, like Mac, trained brilliantly, and it goes to show, when you train well, you play well.
Goals: Nicko

Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
This week the girls played a very close game against Montrose at Koonung Reserve. All the girls contributed throughout the game, especially Bianca, Riley, Chloe and Steph who worked really hard. There was also an exciting first goal by Lucy D who then went to the backline and kept the pressure on for the rest of the game. A special mention to Phoebe who got crunched twice, but continued to put her body on the line for the team. Overall it was a great game even though we were very unlucky not to come out of it with a win.
Final Score: Montrose 2.4.16 d Mitcham 1.4.10
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
The U13's played "The Basin" on a windy, cold afternoon. Our opposition had only lost 1 game for the season. This week at training the coaching staff had been focusing on our team spirit and enthusiasm, as the boys have been a bit flat over the last couple of weeks. The Tigers responded beautifully and played with passion, commitment, encouragement and endeavour. In short the boys had a real "crack" today which was very pleasing and to outscore the opposition in the third quarter was a great result. Although the overall result of the game did not go our way I'm sure that everyone who watched the game would agree that the Tigers gave 120% for all 4 quarters. Well-done boys. Goal kickers were Joel, Ethan Wu and Dom with encouragement awards to Benny who was "in and under” all game and Harry who lead and presented all game in the forward line. I'm sure that if we bring the same intensity to next week's game I'm confident that we can finish the season off on a high note.
Final Score: The Basin 8.15.63 d Mitcham 3.4.23
Under 14 (Coach: Shane Dickson)
For the second week in a row the U14’s were fantastic with their tackling pressure & attack on the ball. Although the end result was 72 points, the endeavour & effort throughout the day was very pleasing. Jac Semple was a stand out in defence whilst Julian Hopkins was dominant in the air & pulled down plenty of marks.
Award Winners – Jac Semple & Ryan Walsh

Today we took on Scoresby for the second last round of the home and away season and while having already consolidated top spot, it was still a critical game for us as we have to keep the intensity up and not take games for granted. The team also had other things to play for, with Adam Laksassi and Zeb Holly celebrating their 100th game for the club. These two boys have been a part of this group since the inception of the team and it was important they came through with a win for them both. The conditions were going to play a big part in the game with strong winds and rain looking ominous. The toss didn’t go our way and we were kicking into a strong breeze. I asked the group to focus on possession football and use our run and carry players where possible to avoid bombing the ball and allowing it to hold up in the wind. We executed it beautifully and got the first score on the board. From then on our mids worked tirelessly around the ground led magnificently by Ben A, tapping the ball to our advantage at each contest. The scoreboard didn’t really reflect the hard work as we were only 3 goals up, but in the conditions it was a winning score. The second quarter our dominance continued, with our midfield once again getting to the ball first which allowed our forwards to work into space. Our half forward line was strong with Timmy causing havoc and Gilesy battling hard to get to the front position. It was a hard day for our full forward as he was playing on arguably their best player. Our backs have to take a lot of credit for the score line as well, as Scoresby went into the half time break scoreless, even though they had a few entries throughout the first half. At the main break, I asked the team to push harder and to not let their guard down and continue on the road to the finals with form behind them. They didn’t let me down, piling on goals (and plenty of points) throughout the second half. It was a good team effort, and it allowed us to rest some of our superstars while giving some other guys a crack at playing in different positions. No one let me down today. Mentions got to a few outstanding individual efforts today, Ben Ajani for rucking all day and giving us first use, Adrian, Pows, Maxxy, Tim R, Jaydos, Jimmy N, Tayls, Stinger. Well done today boys…. Let’s keep pushing forward for the ultimate prize. Go Tiges….
