Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
The Mitcham Tigers Under 8 Yellow team had a very competitive game against North Ringwood on Sunday. Led by our captain for this week, Thomas Woodhead, the tigers played a really good first quarter, winning the ball out of the centre through some great ruck and clearance work. We moved the ball forward really well and gave lots of opportunities to our forwards. We had many shots at goal, but were a little inaccurate. Things got better in the second quarter. We moved the ball really well from the half back line, sharing the ball around well and converting many times in front of goal. The third quarter saw a spirited fight back from North Ringwood and our boys responded really well, winning the ball by playing in front and ultimately steadying to finish the game off strongly. Well done to all players today - we have been the form team of the competition all year and with one game remaining want to finish the year off in a positive way - giving our best and having fun playing footy! The weekly Mitcham Medal winner was James Watt - an excellent game for 4 quarters, using his skill and speed to move the ball forward quickly and finishing things off with many goals. Two Brothers Cafe award winner - Daniel Grace - played in front really well and used his long kicking to get the ball into the forward line.
Indian Buffet award winner - Thomas Woodhead - led from the front as captain, went in hard for the ball and linked up with his teammates through the use of some really good handball. A special thank you to our 3 team mates from the Mitcham u8 Black team today, who played really well for us - thanks Archer, Rishi and Ned.
Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
Today in ideal conditions the young cubs took on a spirited team from Heathmont. The jets were down in numbers today, and all of our boys played a quarter in the opposition colors. The boys did this in good spirit and a number of the boys kicked a bag of goals whilst playing for the opposition. Today we had one boy kick 8 goals. Rishi loves playing forward for the Tigers and today he had a day out. First time I have coached a kid who has kicked a big score like this and it was fun to watch. Our boys were on the scoreboard early winning the ball well from the middle and looking for options up forward. Our half back line was resolute with Archer and Morgan always wanting to defend and swing into attack. They are becoming a formidable duo. Tarran, Cooper and Rishi play so well forward, with Tarran being a player who can play all over the ground, and in particular on the ball. Mason assisted in a couple of goals and showed us why he can play in the middle, winning a ruck dual which ended up with a goal early on in the third quarter. Harrison and Joel spread well across the half forward line and took some great contested marks deep in attack. Marco once again showed us that he can play anywhere and rucked the ball nicely, both for us and for the opposition. A highlight of the day was watching Marco and Jett ruck both for us, and against each other when they played for the Jets. Mitcham is going to have some great talls over the coming years with these two. Heathmont judged our best player today as Cooper, who got plenty of the ball and really troubled the opposition in trying to match up on him. He broke many lines and kicked the ball beautifully into our forward line. He also had a stint on the ball, and played this position very well. Ned won the medal for us today. Mark of the day went Rishi, marking the ball on the goal line, and converting, and goal of the day was awarded to Joel who ran down the flank and kicked a beautiful goal on the run. Other awards today went to Mason, Jett, Cooper, Harley, and Rishi who also was our captain. Today was the best game the boys have played all year, and although we don’t keep score in under 8’s this one would have been a massive win if we did.
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
Jackson "Jacko" Doherty was our captain today as we ventured out to Upper Ferntree Gully. We wanted to be first to the footy and our backline to be accountable this week. The first half was a tight tussle with our straight kicking at goal the difference between the two teams. All players worked hard at each contest and it was great to see the backline so disciplined. The third quarter saw us dominate play but it was our turn to be able inaccurate in front of goal. The last quarter was a real arm wrestle. Will Serong played a great game and kicked the goal of the day. UFTG coach awarded him best on ground. Angus Butler was terrific all day and was the catalyst for our third quarter domination with his great ruck work and contesting around the ground. He was awarded the Mitcham Medal. Alexander Parigi again battled hard in key positions and Riley Downes traded in his usual running game for a more defensive game today. Both were awarded a Two Brothers voucher. It was great to have Max Irvine back this week and he not only racked up kicks, but his pressure acts were great too. He was awarded the Buffet Hut award. Charlie Wilson has filled in a few times this year, but today was in everything and also kicked a goal. He received the Panelans Sundae award. Well-done guys. Go Tiges!
Goals: Tyson Darmody, Jackson Doherty, Charlie Wilson, Will Serong

Under 9 Mitcham Black played Lysterfield in great winter conditions. Jesse was captain for today's game. Jesse has shown great leadership and has shows a lot a natural football ability. All of this was on display today. Last time we played Lysterfield we did not kick a goal but with 3 goals to Nay and 2 goals to Felix it was a completely different story today. The boys were switched on from the first bounce and competed like AFL seasoned veterans. It was clearly our best game of the year. The Mitcham medals went to Marcus and Charlie who really typified the teams approach to every contest - well-done boys. It has taken a while but the boys are playing as a team with contributions from all players.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
Today saw the Under 10’s finally at Walker Park for a home game, taking on Vermont Eagles. The boys came out firing with excellent skills and teamwork, Led by Hamish and Christian the boys played with determination, the tackling and shepherding proved to be the difference in the game.
Awards: Ethan for his excellent ruck work, Joshy for his goals and Gruff for the leadership he showed in the back line.
Goals: Hamish x2, Joshy x2, Lachlan, Tynan and Ashton.
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
Today we faced East Burwood Rams at their home. Dry mild conditions ensured some clean possessions from both teams. Our ability to maintain our composure has been pleasing when our opponents bring it, which they did today. The cubs worked together with an army of runners getting the ball into the hands of our forwards with space inside 50. George Molnar kicked a bag today but a lot of credit has to go to an even spread of contributors in this u11s group. It’s been difficult to keep a lid on my joy and pride for these boys but with the F word (finals) around the corner the jobs not done.
Best: George, Lachlan, Liam, Luke, Hudson, James, Ned
Final Score: Mitcham 12.8.80 d East Burwood 2.1.13
Under 12 (Coach: Jason Philactides)
After a fair fight to try and win against the top team, we had a decent go and unfortunately the win did not come our way. Whilst we lost by 5 goals, that isn't reflective of how close the game was until the last few minutes of the game. Some decisions did not go our way, which made the score look worse than what our effort actually was. The boys didn't seem to come together until the second half of the game. They fought hard and we had our chances, which proves we are a competitive team when we put our mind to it. If the boys come across Kilsyth again, the boys should have some confidence that when we bring our A game, we can match it to anyone. Dan T today had another consistent game today. He always fights hard and never gives up. He is a great leader of the boys and always follows his words with actions. I love watching Dan play because his determination is relentless. Mac followed my instructions well today and his 1 per centers were his reason why we were right in the game. He punched when the ball was in contest and he chased hard to put pressure on his opponent. I can’t ask more than that. Well done to our two award winners.
Goals: Loal 1, Sasha 1, Mackay 1.
Final score: Kilsyth 8.6.54 d Mitcham 3.2.20
Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
Today the girls played against Mt Evelyn at Mt Evelyn. The game started off great, with our pressure holding them goalless in the first quarter. This was an achievement as we have had some pretty slow starts over the past few games. It was a tough game for the girls with majority of the play being in Mt Evelyn's forward half, but they are kept fighting through; especially Lucy D with her manning up and getting back on the line to rush a goal through, Bianca with her rucking actions, and great defensive pressure from the whole team. Although they kept us scoreless the girls really did try and make the most of their opportunities.
Final score: Mt Evelyn 5.1. 31 d Mitcham 0.0.0
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
The U13's played Mooroolbark at walker Park. The first quarter saw the opposition kick 3 goals with the Tigers failing to kick a goal. In the second quarter the Tigers did attack a little more kicking a goal but allowing the opposition to kick 5 goals into the breeze. The third quarter was not a good one for the Tigers with the opposition kicking 6 unanswered goals. The last was a little bit better with the Tigers outscoring the opposition 2 goals in one. Goal kickers were Dom, Joel and Jamie. "Uncles Ball" was awarded to Stevo who is showing great promise in the ruck. Encouragement awards went to Pat who tried hard all game and Dom presented and took a number of marks in the forward line.
Final Score: Mooroolbark 15.15.105 d Mitcham 3.9.27

Today’s game resulted in a 79-point loss, but the scoreboard was not indicative of the effort that was shown throughout the day. Bailey Hunter, Julian Hopkins, Matt Goodieson & Rylan Leitner were strong in the middle of the ground whilst Jac Semple & Kyle Smith were strong in defence. Goal scorers for the game included Rylan Leitner, Max Webb, Ethan Lang & Sam Adcroft.. Congratulations to Corey Dickson who played his 100th game this round.

We headed down the road to HE Parker Reserve to take on the second placed Heathmont. Although we were already three games clear on top of the ladder, a win here would completely sew up the minor premiership for us. Heathmont were a couple of players short at the start of the game and we didn’t really take full advantage of this, but we still kicked 2 goals to nothing kicking into the wind in the first quarter. From there we dominated the game apart from maybe a 5 minute period in the third where the undermanned Jets really took it up to us and managed to kick a couple of goals. The last quarter was our best where we piled on 7 unanswered goals. A great team effort with a couple of players out, but special mentions to Spiros who played 4 brilliant quarters in the backline and even ran down the ground and kicked a great team goal. JP was back to his brilliant best after missing a few weeks through injury. Maxxy, Stinger, Jaydos, Kevin and Timmy all played major roles in a big win. Well-done boys! Remember no training this Tuesday and lets make a big effort to have big numbers on Thursday! Almost at the business end of the season and we need to keep the intensity up and continue to work on parts of our game that we know we can improve. Go Tigers!
Final Score: Mitcham 16.14.110 d Heathmont 2.3.15
