Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
This week our U8 yellow played against the Heathmont Jets on a very cold morning. Kailie North was our Captain and did a great job leading from the front. We got the jump on the Jets with some great team play and clearances from the middle. The team play was exceptional and the efforts in front of goal even better. The awards this week started with Kailie North being awarded the Mitcham Encouragement Medal for best play of the day. Kailie is really finding her feet and created a goal today for one of her teammates. Our Two Brothers Cafe award went to Lorenz Klinger-Horsburg for his continued development and confidence in getting to the ball first. His awareness of the game has grown really well this season and now has the confidence to get his own ball and today saw him create two or three goal scoring opportunities. Noah Quinlan was one of our best on the ground today. His foot skills in passing to his teammates on the run were exceptional. Noah got the Buffet Hut award this week. Another Buffet Hut award went to Thomas Linnett for being in front all game in any position. His two great goals in the first quarter gave him great confidence to play out what was his best game for the year. Our third and final Buffet Hut award went James Watt. Again he played with great skill, which was not easy in the wet conditions. Up forward he is a great target and takes a great mark, and out of the middle he creates great run. He did this all game this week and snared himself a couple of goals. We say it every week, but all players could have received an award due to the effort they all put in. Well-played Tigers!
Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
Today our Tiger cubs took on a good East Ringwood team in a muddy paddock at Quambee Reserve. We are so proud to see the boys running and looking for each other and spreading out and using their voices to get to the ball. Joel was our captain today, and he played very well all over the ground. Three boys joined us today from the yellow team, as we were a little short and these boys, Charlie, Josh and Ryan played very well indeed. Ryan was awarded a medal by the opposition coach as our best player - well-done Ryan. Goal of the day was awarded to Josh (number 14 Josh from the yellow team). Josh took a great mark right on our goal line and converted it for 6 points. Rishi took mark of the day, and he also converted this for a great goal. Harley was judged as play of the day, for his great efforts all over the ground. Best player awards were hard to judge; as today’s game was no doubt the best game we played all year. Josh (number 4) played his best game of the year, closely followed by Lewis, who took a screamer of a mark early in the game. Tarran, Archer and Morgan combined well across halfback and look like they have been playing together for years. Tarran also played very well in the ruck when we required. Morgan and Archer are also swingmen and can run forward when we need them and they create a lot of opportunities in the forward half. Harrison played very well in the forward line and is very good at playing in front of his man and getting to the ball first. Roy always amazes me with this left foot, and when he swings around on it in the middle of the ground, we know it is headed deep into our forward line. Well done to Josh and Joel for playing two games today, and playing well in both of them. Well-done tigers!
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
With a depleted squad we took on the tall and well-drilled team in Wantirna Sth. Angus Butler was named captain today and was champing at the bit to play well on our home ground. In the first half we were led to the ball by a more determined outfit, however we clawed our way back in the game in the third quarter by focusing on what we have done well all year - winning the ball and sharing it well to team mates in space. Some injuries in the last quarter left our numbers on the ground a bit thin and Wantirna Sth were able to once again gain the ascendancy. A courageous 4-quarter game by Stephen Stansfield earned him the Mitcham Medal, whilst Angus Butler was awarded the Panelans Sundae for his game where he never gave up trying and led the team with determination. Cooper Edwards and Charlie Trollope were awarded a meal voucher from Two Brothers Cafe. Coops battled hard against much bigger opposition all game and won many crucial 1 on 1's and Charlie ran into space well and was a real contributor all day. Caden Sleap continues to improve week on week and was awarded the Buffet Hut voucher for his game. We as a team would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Jamie and Lachie and the Gilchrist family at this time. We are thinking of you.
Under 9 Black (Coach: Peter Ajani)
Under 9 Mitcham Black played a talented North Ringwood in crisp conditions. The game started with Mitcham getting the first few goals and dominating play. Led by captains Steve and Gab the team stepped up several level in its contested footy. Patrick Phet dominated the play. This was a very even game with plenty of goals being kicked. Mitcham medals went to Archie and Felix who both played fantastic footy. Archie the King of contested footy and Felix back to his goal kicking best. Our best game of the year was inspired out of respect for the Gilchrist family. Our sincere condolences go to Jamie, Lachie and Mitchell.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
It was a very emotional day at pinewood reserve today where the under 10's led by Lachie Gilchrist, took on the Waverley Blues. It was a tight tussle all day with some excellent teamwork shown by the boys. The team showed maturity beyond their years wearing the black armbands and pink socks today in honour of Fiona.
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
With a venue change due to conditions we were up against Heathmont Jets at Jubilee Park. Our early dominance could have quite easily sealed the game if not for our inaccuracy. We exposed their defensive run receiving little threat from the Jets runners Our key forwards used their influence to organize our spread creating a number of scoring chances. The damp conditions didn't stop our big boys from having an influence.
Best Players: Hudson, Ned, Steven, Matthew, Oscar & Luke
Final Score: Mitcham 8.18.66 d Heathmont 2.0.12
Under 12 (Coach: Jason Philactides)
A well fought out win today. I was proud of the way the boys never gave up in the last quarter and restricted Montrose's ability to attack. The first half of the game was not out best effort, however, it was just good enough to keep us in touch with Montrose. After a stern talking to the boys at half time, I noticed the boys were a lot tighter and moved the footy as asked. The boys finally showed they wanted to win and give themselves a chance to stay in reach for finals. At the end of this round, their hard work has been rewarded with a top 5 spot. James Burke joined out team only this year and has been a great addition. It is a pleasure to watch him mark consistently overhead and has an accurate kick that often sets us up for goals. He nearly kicked a ripper himself today. Also shining today was Bailey with his ability to fight hard, locking the footy in the forward line and pushing the ball forward, which resulted in us scoring. He tried hard all day and followed through on the coaches instruction. Well done Bailey and James.
Goals: JP 4, Luca 1, Denzell 1.

Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
Today we took on Norwood on a day that was very cold for our girls! Although it was a rather scrappy game, our girls didn’t have much luck on their side and were unable to get another win. The girls tried hard all game and the efforts of Meg, Chloe and Gemma stood out, particularly in the second half where they laid some great tackles. Our second half was a much-improved effort after we had let them get away from us in the first half.
Final Score: Norwood 6.5.41 d Mitcham 0.0.0
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
The U13's this week played Glen Waverley Rovers away. Kicking against the wind in the first quarter the Tigers opened the scoring with a good team goal to Joel and restricting the opposition to only one goal was a great result for the boys. Unfortunately in the second quarter we didn't take advantage of the breeze only adding one goal but also conceding one. Scores were level at half time. In the third the opposition got their game together and kicked three unanswered goals. Having too much to do in the last and some injuries to key players we were unable to capitalise on our opportunities and went down by 11 point. Once again basic skill errors under pressure and our inability for the forward line to kick goals let us down. Goal kickers were Joel 2 and Jamie 1. With only 3 games to go and school holidays beginning the coaching staff is looking for a committed finish to the season. Boys it's up to you how we finish the season off!
Final Score: GW Rovers 5.4.34 d Mitcham 3.5.23

Our boys came up against Vermont & we were significantly beaten on the scoreboard. With only 17 players for the entire game, the task was made more difficult than normal. It was great to see that the boys still applied pressure where they could, and some players stepped up and tried hard. Thanks to the players that continually put in the hard work.

Today we headed down the highway to take on St Simons, in what was a very important game in the lead up to the finals. St Simons who are sitting equal third will be a force in the finals and we had to put doubt into their minds that they could beat us. The ground was an absolute bog heap and it was very important to score early with the dry ball, as goals would be worth double as the game went on. Our team was strengthened with the inclusion of JP and Adrian, which gave us more opportunities for quality rotations throughout the game. The game started with intensity and we quickly gained the upper hand with some strong forward work led by some clean delivery from our mids. The backline held up their end by rebounding anything that came their way only letting one major go through and it stayed that way until late into the last quarter when the game was dusted. As the game went on the workload increased, as did the heaviness of the ground on the boy’s legs. It was a real slog for everyone but we maintained control across all parts of the ground. The second and third quarters were much the same with the backline holding up strong, the mids doing their bit and the forwards scrambling goals when the opportunity arose. Adam L popped up during the third for two goals, which pretty much put the sealer on the game, which is what we need from our small forwards, to take the opportunities when they get them. Mentions go to a few who worked tirelessly for the full four quarters, Maxxy in defence and through the middle, J Nichol, Timmy, Hoppo, Kev, Jaydos, Zebby and JP. Good win boys, we just need to keep that winning feeling and lift the bar on our efforts. Go tiges….
