Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
This week U8 Yellow took on North Ringwood Black at full strength. Our Captain this week was Charlie Cruise who set the scene of how he wanted his team to play from the first bounce where he got the first clearance, which culminated in our opening goal. The teamwork in the centre of the ground from all players was amazing today. On most occasions our rucks tapped straight to a teammate in a great set play that the kids have been working on at training. We saw amazing handballs from all players when caught in packs, bringing other players into the game. Our first Buffet Hut award this week went Kaillie North for her endeavour at the ball. Kaillie has been working really hard at training which showed in today’s game. Our second Buffet Hut award went to Jett Love. Jett was always in front taking some hard marks, kicking goals and setting up an opportunity for his teammate to kick a goal. Our third Buffet Hut award went to or fearless leader Charlie Cruise. Charlie is a great listener and quick to pick up what is required. The Two Brothers Café award was awarded to Ryan McConnell. Ryan showed great determination to get to as many packs and stoppage across the ground as he could, reading the play really well. The Mitcham Football Club Player of the Round Medal went to a very deserved winner in Josh Dakic. Josh, as he has all year showed all his endless abilities and skills. Great game Josh! All round it was another great game with everyone contributing. These kids play a great brand of football and each week they are putting our set plays into action. Their skills get better and better, and the great thing is seeing how much fun they are having each week. Well played to all of you.
Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
Today our team played a great game against Croydon. The boys have come a long way this season, and we are watching games now where boys are looking for each other with the ball, and starting to play in their positions more. Mason kicked his first goal for the Tigers today and no one was more thrilled than his Dad, Drew. It’s great to see the kids confidence get better and better each week and I’m sure young Mason will add to his tally by the end of the year. Well done on winning a best player award today. Our medal winner today was Joel. Joel has showed marked improvement and is one of the players in the team that can play anywhere on the field. He takes some great marks, is a very good kick, and has the ability to read the play well. Harley was our captain today, and played very well on the wing for a lot of the game, getting into the middle as a real in and under player, Harley also won a best player award thanks to his endeavours. Marco is also one of our players who plays well all over the ground. Well-done Marco on another great game and a best player award this week. Rishi is a also developing as a great player all over the ground, but definitely one of our best forward players. He has the ability to snap around his body and kick some very good goals, today was no exception and Rishi won an award for his endeavours also. Goal of the day was awarded to Cooper Farr who put a beautiful check side goal straight through the middle. Mark of the day went to Harrison who marked right on the Croydon goal line. I’m sure the little Blue who kicked it was very disappointed as it was going straight through. Play of the day went to Morgan who was very courageous all day with a strapped ankle. His mum Anna told us that he had a small sprain on it early in the week, and 5 mins into the game we could see it bothering him, so I pulled him off the ground. The young lad wasn’t to happy sitting on the side lines watching his team play short and after our trainer Sally and his mum gave us the go ahead, he ran back out there like Francis Bourke! Well-done boys!
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
Today we took on a familiar foe in Blackburn White at Walker Park. Last time we faced them it was a really tightly contested and hard fought game. Today was no different. Will Serong was our fearless skipper today and lead with his usual skill and determination. It was great to see the boys implement our plan to cut off Blackburn’s running game. Our pressure acts are really setting us apart from other teams. Caden Sleap had figures off the charts today with these pressure acts and was awarded the Panelen Sundae award. Dylan Spencer-Yates had arguably his best game all year and used his size to great advantage and was awarded the Mitcham Medal. Ty "The Chief" Crupi also had a great game and was in and under almost every pack today. It was great to see the chief win his own ball and take away a Two Brothers Meal Voucher. Max Irvine also had a great game and intercepted many Blackburn attacks. Max's reading of the play is exceptional. He also threw his body on the line and attacks each contest as if his life depended on it. He too took home a Two Brothers Meal Voucher.
Under 9 Black (Coach: Peter Ajani)
Mitcham Black played East Ringwood on a nice Sunday morning. Nay and Tong who showed their usual hard attack at the ball led the team. Dec showed his ability to fight and get the ball, which was awarded with the Mitcham Medal. Our newest player Patrick Phet finally showed how good he can be, Patrick was a standout showing his kicking ability and run and carry received the other Mitcham Medal. Sean another of our new players took a great mark in defence. Gus also showed his speed with dashing runs. LeBron was awarded the East Ringwood Medal for best opposition player.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
Today saw the Under 10’s head out to Barngeong Reserve to take on Croydon White today. On a cool morning the boys started red hot and kept the pressure on all game. The teamwork again this week was excellent with every player contributing.
Goals: Christian 3, Aiden 2
Awards: Ashton, Ryan O and Shapes Sharp Shooter went to Christian.
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
With the week off, the boys were hungry for some footy. Both teams were relentless at the footy, which brought about 3 hard quarters. The boys learnt an important football lesson today; persistence will be rewarded as was in the last quarter. The lads were reminded that conceding only 28 points in 5 games is no fluke. All day we tackled chased and harassed the Lions into errors often pinning them down with no escape routes.
Best Players: Oscar, Ned, Luke, Hudson, James & Jeremy
Final Score: Mitcham 9-8-63 d Eastern Lions 0-0-0
Under 12 (Coach: Jason Philactides)
Great win by the boys today. While at one stage it looked like the game was in the balance the boys fought really hard in the last quarter to come away with a convincing win. When the boys concentrate hard on the game, they play fantastic footy and dominate play. We are now getting down to the pointy end of the season and we sit outside the 5 by .10%. From this point on we need to reduce the oppositions score as much as possible and we need to have some big wins. Looking at the remaining games for the season, there is a high possibility that 5th spot will be determined by the highest percentage. Jasper S had a great game. He kicked a beautiful goal and every time he got his hands on the footy he though through the situation and used the footy to our advantage. Since moving back into the forward line, Jasper is starting to find his feet. Sasha is another player that is developing well as a junior footy player. This year Sasha has provided an extra dimension to our midfield and is winning his fair share of the footy. His skills to date show his hard work during the week to improve his footy. Lastly kicking 7 goals in any level of competition football is a fantastic effort. Its great being able to have a focal point up forward this year. Well done to the three boys on their awards.
Goals: JP 7, Jack 1, Jasper 1, and Denzell 1.
Final Score: Mitcham 10.10.70 d Glen Waverley Rovers 7.7.49
Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
We ventured to Yarra Glen today after the week off, and fair to say we were a bit slow off the mark. We let them get out to a 19 point lead at quarter time and it could have been more if not for the efforts of Phoebe and Chloe down back. From quarter time on we picked up as a team, moving the ball quickly and creating opportunities - Sabrina breaking through in the second for our first goal in weeks! In the second half the girls could sense they were in the game and we got three more goals in the third, closing the gap to 6 points at three quarter time. We kept the pressure up in an intense final quarter, keeping them scoreless and with a goal from Rile9y just a couple of minutes to go, snatched the lead by a point and were able to hold on for a fantastic victory. Jess E was fantastic in the ruck, Riley hard at it all day and Sabrina, Jess T and Phoebe all having good games. Today was a day where all the girls contributed to the win – Well-done girls.
Goals: Sabrina 2, Riley 2, Matilda R 1
Final Score: Mitcham 5.4.34 d Yarra Glen 5.3.33
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
The U13's this week hosted East Burwood at Walker Park. The first quarter was a tight affair but late goals to the opposition saw the Tigers trail by 2 goal at the first break. A goalless second quarter and 2 to the opposition was not ideal and at the major break we trailed by 4 goals. The third quarter was a good one for the Tigers going goal for goal with the opposition but unfortunately we dropped off in the last and conceded late goals to be well beaten by a more skillful opponent. However there were some good signs today with our endeavour and attack on the ball the best it has been for a couple of weeks. Encouragement awards went to Luke kicking his first goal for the club and his forward pressure was great. "Uncles Footballs" went to Alex for his 4 quarters for gut running and Hendo for his tireless work in the backline. Goal kickers were Ethan Wu, Jamie and Luke. We still need to work on the basics as simple skill errors at this level get punished. With hard work and a small lift from everyone I'm sure we'll see the Tigers bounce back next week.
Final Score: East Burwood 10.13.73 d Mitcham 3.5.23
Under 14 (Coach: Shane Dickson)
Our boys came up against a very strong Blackburn team & we were comprehensively beaten on the scoreboard. The boys tried hard under difficult circumstances & it was pleasing to see some of the boys that have not played a lot of football grow in confidence over the last couple of games - Ethan Lang took a couple of marks & put plenty of pressure on the opposition players, whilst Sam Adcroft spent some time in the ruck and used his size to advantage.
Awards: Ethan Lang & Ryan Walsh
Best Players: Julian Hopkins, Matt Goodieson, Rylan Leitner, Josh Melville, Corey Dickson & Jarrod Cumming.
Goals: Corey Dickson.
Final Score: Blackburn 21.8.134 d Mitcham 1.3.9

Focus for today was all about playing the quick moving and fast-flowing football that this team does best. We got a good start through Lachie in the ruck who was tapping really well and a midfield that was winning plenty of clearances. The forward line continually presented and didn’t let the ball out easily. Maxy led the backline and the injury to Spiros came at a time when he was having a great game. The boys weren’t satisfied at half time and kept the pressure up in the second half and the midfield of Tim, Jaydos, Jimmy Nichols and Stinger all continued to win the ball and use it well. Ferntree Gully never dropped their heads and our boys work rate and ability to share the ball meant we finished the game strongly and recorded a good win. Hoppo in the middle played a great game, continually driving the ball forward and taking shots at goal when there were no options on. Seany led strongly, kicked accurately and gave the team a great target up forward. Whilst the big moments stand out we did the little things well all day and everyone played a part - Doigy’s tackling, Alex keeping his head over the ball, Timmy’s handballing, Tony’s spoiling efforts, Jared’s unselfish play and Ben Ajani’s smothers. We need to bring today’s intensity and ball use every week as we look to continually improve over the remainder of the season.
Final Score: Mitcham 25.8.158 d Upper Ferntree Gully 2.3.15
