Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
What a great game today as our great U8 Mitcham Yellow played Montrose Red. Our Captain Daniel Grace led our undermanned team beautifully against the strong Montrose team. This game was a great test for the boys after some very good weeks. With 2 fewer players the Tigers had to run harder and use the skills and structures they’ve learned to play as team, eventually taking control of the game from the second quarter. We constantly won the ball first and pushed it well into our forward line, weaving and dodging their way past the opposition, often finishing with a shot on goal for our efforts. It was great to see the boys link up with clean kicking and marking. It was great to watch and shows the hard work at training has paid off really well. Our Panelan’s Cafe award this week went to Lorenz Klinger- Horsbugh. The Two Brothers Café award this week went to Charlie Cruise. Our Mitcham medal for Player of Week went to James Watts for his running efforts and clearance work out of the centre. The huge improvement out of today’s game was the whole team effort; the handballing and kicking, linking up players to move the ball across the ground without the opposition touching it was outstanding. Well played boys - you did an amazing job. Next week we take on Norwood at 11:30. This looks to be another great challenge for the boys. Go Tigers!
Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
Today our young Tigers took on a skilled and running team from North Ringwood. The first quarter saw the Tigers kicking against a howling North westerly and the boys held strong with Joel kicking a beautiful goal and a great mark to our Captain today Harrison. The second quarter saw our midfield take their share of control and Lewis dominating the ruck and our backs defending well and linking up together.
Mitcham won a lot of the contest in the third quarter in windy conditions and ran out some beautiful play led by Tarran, Archer and Cooper with some great work done in defense by Jett as well. Lewis played a great game and showed us that he is very good in the middle at contesting the ball, along with Roy, who perhaps has one of the biggest left boots in the under 8’s. All the boys impressed today, and the biggest thrill for the coaching staff was seeing clean pick ups by all of the boys off the ground, a skill we have been training hard to do all week, and it showed today. Archer was awarded a medal from the North Ringwood Coach and his comments were that he contested and ran well all day, well-done mate. The Mitcham medal today went to our little rover in Cooper. Cooper had a great day out and he positions himself well around the ground. All the boys played a great team game today, and standouts were Harrison, Harley, Tarran, Morgan, Joshua, Ned, Joel and Roy. We learned a few things from the North Ringwood team today and some of it we will take back to the track with us on Wednesday.
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
In windy conditions we took on Waverley Blues on their patch. Mad Max Irvine was captain today after a courageous and skillful season to date. He won the toss and gave us first use of the strong breeze. Despite having much of the ball in the first quarter we peppered the points. Some efficient ball use from Waverley saw us trail at quarter time. After addressing the boys about getting first to the footy, we turned the corner and dominated the majority of the rest of the game. Some great run and carry was backed up by a tremendous defensive game with all players contributing. 8 goals against the strong wind was a terrific effort! The medal went to Alexander Parigi for a super game where he fought hard for the footy all game. CJ got on the end of a great one / two with Jimmy and was awarded the buffet hut voucher. Jackson Doherty was full of run and used the ball efficiently going forward which saw him take home the Two Brothers award. Tyson Darmody has a blistering second half winning many clearances for us and was awarded the Panelen's award for this week. Well done boys, GO TIGES!
Under 9 Black (Coach: Peter Ajani)
Mitcham Black played Rowville who was a very skillful side. The captains today were Liam and Noah. Both boys led with the determination and skill. The team continued to follow our training of passing to team mates and keeping their feet. There were several terrific passages of play in quite windy conditions. Two goals to Nay in the third quarter was a game high light.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
Today we took on Glen Waverley Rovers at Walker Park, our second home game for the season. The wind proved to be a big factor with scores seesawing every quarter. It proved to be a very competitive game with both teams aggressive at the ball.
Goals: Joshy 2, Gruff 1
Awards: Joshy, Lachlan and Sasha.
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
Today we traveled to Heatherdale Reserve to take on the Heathmont Jets. Its been pleasing to see the under 11 boys show maturity in their age. An understanding of team driven goals we've set has been outstanding. I won't be naming individual best on performances today. The team's best today, was THE TEAM. The boys in the rooms showed an appreciation of all the parents involved with the running of this footy team after the game. Great win Tiges....
Final Score: Mitcham 9.13.64 d Heathmont 2.8.20

First of all, congratulations to Nathan on his 50 game milestone. It’s been a real thrill to watch and coach my son over the years and he topped his 50th game off with a great game and win. And what a great win it was. Every single player played their role beautifully and contributed to the win. With the boys kicking against the wind in the first quarter it was always going to be tough to keep Montrose's score low. Even though it was 17 - 1 at the end of the first quarter, I knew with the wind in our favour the next quarter, we were able to turn this around quickly and stay in touch with Montrose at the half time break. Third quarter saw us take control of the game, creating many stoppages and forcing the ball around the boundary line, which made it hard for Montrose to score. The boys could smell a win and took control of the game to run out winners by 28 points. Dan N played a great captains game today and gave his all for the side with his trade mark tackling, hard ball gets and run and carry. Mackay has possibly the toughest job of the day, rucking against a good opposition ruck man. Not only was Mackay fantastic in the ruck, but also did a lot of hard work around the game as well. Two deserving medal winners today.
Goals: Nathan 2, Nicko 1, Jasper S 1, Denzell 1, Jack 1, and Sasha, 1.
Final score: Mitcham 7.6.48 d Montrose 2.8.20
Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
Today we played Yarra Glen at Yarra Glen. We looked like were in for a good game as the girls started well in extremely windy conditions. They were competing hard for the ball but unfortunately the opposition was able to get a few late goals and then kicked away for the rest of the game. We let them get away from us in the second where our intensity dropped off, particularly towards the ball. Our last quarter was good in that we were able to stop Yarra Glen from scoring but we unable to score ourselves, The girls fought out the game, with Meg Serong having a great game, never giving up in a very tough game. Phoebe played her best game so far, getting in and under for the ball and never giving up. Chloe returned to form and played well throughout the game. Steph and Riley also played well alongside Bianca’s rucking skills.
Final Score: Yarra Glen 8.5.53 d Mitcham 0.0.0
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
On a sunny and windy afternoon the U13's played Montrose at Walker Park. Our co-captain Jamie was celebrating his 50th game so the Tigers were fired up to make sure it was a successful day. The Tigers kicked with the wind in the first quarter and took full advantage of the breeze by kicking 4 goals. The second quarter saw the Tigers hold the opposition to a single goal. In the third we kicked away by booting 5 goals and in the last we kicked the only goal into the breeze all day to run out comfortable winners. We played great team footy today sharing the ball around and working together to ensure we had numbers at the contest. Goals were Dom-3, Jamie-2 and singles to Joel, Atticus, Lachlan, Harry and Ethan Wu. Encouragement awards went to Adlai for working hard in the forward line and setting up a goal, Ethan Miller for being a lively target up forward all day and Lachlan who applied great forward pressure and being rewarded with a goal. "Uncles Ball" was awarded to Pat Cotter, co-captain, for his fantastic leadership and rebound out of defense.
Final Score: Mitcham 10.12.72 v Montrose 1.1.7

Under 15 Girls (Coach: Luke Smith)
T’was a balmy Autumn afternoon in the sleepy hamlet of Wandin, the best looking football side Mitcham has ever produced made the arduous journey to visit the folks from the hills. Next time we will be booking out the local Flag Inn for the night as it’s far to far to travel there and back in one day. Cowboy hats, bare feet, lumberjack plaid shirts were the order of the day. A man with a horse herded the cows off the ground and all was in readiness. We really didn’t know what to expect but the Wandin girls were bigger and taller than our petite princesses. A lucky coin toss saw us kick with the hurricane force wind and we started with a bang. Quarter time saw us up by 2 goals. Half time we were in front by 1 goal and after that we got really serious. Running out winners by around 7 goals, despite playing the second half with just 17 players. Enola “ Plugger” Zamitt marked her come back game with a casual 3 goals and 3 goal assists, other goal kickers 2 to Lexy, 2 to Tiana and goal of the year thus far to Bridget with a blistering run from the wing finishing in a “Cyril” like boomerang from the boundary line. Best players were Lexy, Enola, Tiana, Cat, Alana and Alice. Best hair went to Sally. Tiff and Jess, best tan to Lexy and Ella. Best makeup to Cat and Tayla (Didn’t play but helped out on the day, many thanks). Good luck to Bridget this week with her injury and we can’t wait for you to get back on deck. Go Tiges Grrrrrrr!

Under 17 (Coach: Cam Horsey)
Today we took on The Basin at home, which was a bit of a grudge match for us as they were the team that took us out of the finals last year. On what was a very wind day with the Maroondah highway end being favoured by a strong breeze.
The coin toss was a good one to win and we chose to kick with the breeze. We got off to a good start with our mids working well in the middle asserting control from the first bounce. We peppered the forward line for the whole quarter but were unable to convert as well as we would have liked, which still left it open for The Basin to get back into the game. The second quarter was a quarter we have been lacking in any consistent play over the last couple of weeks, but today was different. We used the ball well in the middle and scored first into the wind. Our defense was incredible, led by Stinger, Max and Jimmy with Spitter mopping up all the loose balls and they were instrumental in holding The Basin to just one lucky goal. Our forwards worked hard and put us further in front. Sean (the accurate one) Giles was great, giving us a target with Riles, Jules and Timmy working brilliantly across half forward. At the main break we asked the group to work extremely hard on not allowing the opposition any clean space to work in. Although they had a bit of the ball we didn’t allow them any easy kicks and we held our wall across the flanks extremely well, rebounding at every opportunity. Jimmy Nichol had a field day across most of the ground in the second half, rebounding at will and was unstoppable in close quarters. At the close of the game we were still working hard and didn’t let up on the pressure until the siren. It was a great team effort today and everyone contributed. A special mention goes to Spiros today for his 100th game with the club. Spitter is one of the most liked members of the team and is one of the first picked each week. He represents everything you want in a player with his commitment to not only the club but also his commitment to his teammates. Week after week he has to play against someone taller and stronger but never shirks the contest. Well-done mate. Mentions also go to our top contributors today. Jimmy Nichol, Hoppo, Sean, Maxxy, Zebby, Timmy and Riles but as I said it was a great team effort today. Bring on next week. Go Tiges!
Final Score: Mitcham 10.31.91 d The Basin 1.1.7
