Congratulations to the EFL’s Division 1 under 14 interleague side, who won their respective Grand Final in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Junior Championships at Shepley Oval, Dandenong on Saturday.
The Under 14 side stepped up on the big stage to defeat the South Metro Junior Football League.
Coach Brendan McCormack says his team’s main focus heading in to the match was to play four consistent quarters of team footy.
‘We weren’t quite sure what South Metro was going to be like, but obviously by winning their pool, we knew they were going to be strong,’ he said.
‘We had to play a brand of footy that was tough and intense – and we did that for the full four quarters, which was great.’
While McCormack highlights a handful of great individual performances, he believes his team got itself into a winning position because ‘everyone did something’ during the match.
Tom North [Heathmont] in the middle was fantastic, as were the two Walkden twins [Josh and Nick] from Croydon. Down back we had six players who were solid all day. Riley Constantino [Croydon] was another one, as well as Cooper Ratten [Mitcham] in the ruck,’ he said.
All the boys out there are leaders in their own way. All I had to do was direct them a bit and tell them where to go.’
EFL 17.11 (113) defeated South Metro JFL 8.9 (57)
