Registration Information and T&C's
Our Junior club teams (Doncats) participate in the EDJBA competition which plays against other junior clubs from a wide part of the eastern Melbourne area.
We enter boys and girls teams with players aged from 5 years to 20 years old. Our players are assessed and placed in a team according to their capabilities. We encourage beginners and advanced players to participate.
We are very focused on being an all inclusive family orientated club.

Team Selection
In addition to a player's age and availability, there are several other factors considered by the coordinators when allocating players to teams. Teams are put together by the following
1.Coaches submit a report every season which covers the players ability and development, attitude to training and games and reliability
2.Consideration is given to the age groups and grades played in previous seasons.
3.The coordinators observe all players during the season.
4.The coordinators review the progress of players against their age group peers. Often players do not develop at the same rate so it is not unusual for players to move between grades and teams differently.
Player Movement
The basketball coordinators may move players throughout the grading season.
Game Day Availability
All players in the U15, U17, U19 and U21 age groups are expected to be available for games during the day including your share of late games.
Game Time Requests & Preferences
The only game (AM/PM) request EDJBA will accept is for Compulsory School Sport or Language school. If you do another activity on Saturday we unfortunately cannot take this into consideration. We will make every endeavour to facilitate game time availability requests, however please note they are not guaranteed. Please ensure the information is submitted when registering otherwise requests may not be granted.
Training Requests
Each team is allocated a weekly training session held after 4:00 pm Monday - Thursday. Training times depend upon the compatibility of coaches and the majority of players in the team. We will try our best to give you the training day requested but unfortunately this is not guaranteed and you may not get your training on the night selected.
We understand that many players have multiple commitments. Limiting the time a player is available to train has a big impact on the team you are placed in. The more availability you have for training, the better chance we have to meet other requests, such as friendship.
Friendship Request
While we understand players would like to play with their friends, the following will only be taken into consideration when making a friend request.
1.We will only take 1 (one) friend request per player.
2.Both players note on their registration that they would like to be in the same team.
3.They are in the same age group.
4.They have both noted the same training day request.
5.Both players are the same skill level. We will not place an A/B graded player with a C/D graded player.
Custom Teams
Consideration will only be given to Custom Teams if the below is adhered to. A list of players and their date of birth must be supplied for approval.
1.All players must be in Under 15 or above age group.
2.The team must have a minimum of 7 players.
3.Players will need to be within the same age group.
4.The team will need to supply their own coach. We will not approve a coach that is the same age as the players.
5.Approval of team and coach from either Pam Meddings or Leigh Horder prior to registering.
6.Once approved all players must be registered and registration fees must be paid before teams are entered.
Coaches and Team Managers
Our coaches are volunteers and are usually former or current players or parents. Coaches over 18 years of age must obtain a Working With Children check. Each team requires a parent to take on the role of team manager. The team manager's responsibilities include compiling a scoring roster, communicating game details with the team each week and being the point of contact for the team members.
Playing Times and Venues
Matches are played throughout the day on Saturday from 8.30 am - 9.00 pm, although as a general rule the younger a team is the earlier they play. Half of your matches are played at our home venue (Leeds Street Stadium) with the remainder played at neighbouring clubs including Blackburn, Warrandyte, Bulleen, Collingwood, Eltham.
General Requests
The club seeks to be helpful in meeting your families requests but please be aware that all requests also provide limitations. Restrictions in terms of available training times/playing availability may mean missing out on a desirable team . Friendship choices may mean being placed in a less strong team than a player would be otherwise placed.
Walkover Fines
If your team gives a walkover (you must have 4 players to be able to start) the fine received from EDJBA will be passed onto the team to pay. To help avoid this, always advise your coach/team manager as soon as possible that you are unable to attend a game. (going to a party is not an acceptable reason) The Basketball committee might be able to arrange fill in players if enough notice is given
Scoring
All parents are required to score throughout the season. The team manager will give all parents a scoring roster.
Refund Policy
Registration refunds for withdrawals will only be given for medical reasons and a medical certificate must be provided, a $50 administration fee will apply.
Parents
When registering you are agreeing to the following conditions.
1.Parents are responsible for the supervision of their own children.
2.Players will attend all games/trainings unless they can’t due to illness/injury.
3.Parents/Players will advise coaches/team managers if they are unable to attend a game or training as soon as they can. Please note leaving it to the last minute may incur a walkover fine for the game or make training not possible if other players are not attending as well.
3.Parents/players will support coaches and referees at all times.
4.Parents/players will support the other players and parents in the team.
5.Parents/players are to respect the property of venues at which they play and practice and will be required to pay for any damages they cause.
