PMBA wins BNSW Referee Program of the Year Award for Associations less than 2000 members - again!

We are pleased to announce that PMBA was the recipient of the Referee Program of the Year award for Associations under 2000 members at the recent Basketball NSW Awards Luncheon.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the association has received this award.

The award is a testament to the dedication over many years of our Referee Coordinators Josh Burghardt and Jack Lister (and previous coordinator Adam Howard), Referee Development Officer Josh Burghardt (previously Deb Burghardt for many years), the PMBA Board and of course the referees themselves.

Our program sees officials from the age of 12 commencing as trainee officials on Friday nights who are guided by our experienced referees, to officiate junior domestic, up to our senior domestic competition. Many of these young officials go on to officiate in our Northern Junior League.

This year, as we have done in the past, our referees represented the club with excellence. Of the 11 NJL finals, PMBA had officials in 9 of them, many of the games had two PMBA referees & several of the other referees were ex PMBA juniors now representing other associations. Josh Minihan was named as the NJL Referee of the Year.

This year our referees were invited to attend State Cup, Country Development Tour, ACJBC and Country Premier League Finals. As well, Josh Burghardt was invited to attend the State Championships and Ivor Burge Championships as well as being an active official in the Waratah Senior League and CPL. The majority of our representative officials are also playing officials.

We have also had 3 young officials recently attend Jamboree, Andre Caltabiano, Matt & Nicole Strumolo, which has been an invaluable training ground for several of our more senior officials.

We are continuing our education programs for all officials holding referee courses throughout the year and constantly updating and communicating with our officials on any rule updates or changes as well as different opportunities available to our officials.

We are still desperate for referees in our domestic competition, so if any adult or junior members would like to resume or commence refereeing, please see Josh Burghardt or Jack Lister at the stadium.
