MFL 2012 Review

The 5th season of the Melbourne Futsal League has reached its conclusion last Saturday the 22nd of September.

It was a long, exciting and in some aspects challenging season with great results and growth for the game of Futsal in Victoria.
The competition was boosted by the entry of new clubs taking part for the very first time to bring the total number of participating clubs to 16.

In the most coveted of the 7 titles on offer – in 5 different age categories – the Vic Vipers Futsal Club were crowned Senior Men’s Division 1 Champions for 2012 with a game to spare. The Vipers also claimed the 16’s title by a comfortable margin.
The Cobras Futsal Club also claimed a double by succeeding in the Senior Men’s 2nd Division & the 12’s competition by a 6 points margin in both. The 12’s were the highest scoring team all across the board in all age groups by scoring an incredible 228 goals in
only 14 games.

The 14’s age category was the most popular and it was split into 2 divisions. The St Albans Strikers taking home the 14A’s title whilst the 14B’s crown went to their Western rivals the Joma Jaguars.

The 10’s were also participated in 2012 with the emphasis on learning and playing Futsal and as such no results were recorded.

On the individual front, the Best & Fairest award went to the most consistently well performing Jose Portillo (pictured above in red) of the St Albans Strikers who recorded 12 votes for the season edging out Reuben Langerak from Joma Jaguars by only 2 votes. Portillo also notched up the Top Goal scorer award having netted 15 goals during the season with Adam Cooper (12 Goals) from Vic Vipers and Elisee Mutabazi (10 goals) from Melbourne Futsal Club also reaching double figures.

FFV wishes to remind all teams finishing 1st or 2nd that pennants are ready for collection from FFV Headquarters.

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all teams that participated in 2012.
