FAQ

Who Is The Gippsland Soccer League?

The Gippsland Soccer League (GSL) is governed by a board which is elected by the clubs and their delegates. The club delegates meet on a regular basis throughout the season to discuss issues that may arise. The GSL board has the responsibility to undertake to promote, develop and ensure that football in the Gippsland region is delivered to the community.

Junior and senior competition is arranged for amateur players to compete and enjoy. The league is affiliated with both Football Victoria (FV) and Football Australia (FA) and the Laws of the Game are governed by FIFA. The Gippsland Soccer League supports the development of talented players and participates in the Country Leagues Football Association Country Championships. Teams are selected by appointed coaches and compete at various tournaments throughout the year.

How Do I Register To Play with My Club?

Players should contact their club of choice for the new season.  Click Here for club contact details.  Your club will be able to advise the teams they have competing this season, their training days and the fees.

PLAYFootball is Football Australia’s (FA) national on-line sports administration system through which players complete their registrations.

How Much Does It Cost To Play?

The GSL, FV and individual clubs sets a fee for player registration. These fees are based on what it costs to operate and the club fee varies from club to club. The cost will differ for each age through to senior competition group and may differ from club to club. If cost is an issue for you, check out a few clubs and see what each have to offer.

Can I Transfer To Another Club?

All players are eligible to transfer to another club at the conclusion of a season. You will not be required to fill out a form to register to a different Club. No cancellation, release or 'transfer' form is required to be signed by the former club in order to change clubs at the beginning of a new season. An amateur player is free to register with the club of their choice at the beginning of each new season.

Fixture, Results, Ladders Etc...

Fixtures are decided pre-season once clubs have provided details of the teams and grades they are participating in.  You can view the fixture, results and more for your club/team on the GSL website. There is also a GameDay app which is available in your app store.

Clubs are consulted with regards to requests for all fixtures. Unfortunately sometimes we are unable to meet every team and club request; however we do try our best to ensure that most requests are met. It is important to remember that your team or child’s team is not the only one that is considered when draws are completed.

It is impossible to have all grades follow a traditional home and away draw due to the number of teams that vary from grade to grade especially in the junior competition. If you have any issues with fixtures please contact your club administrators.

Where Do I Go If I Have A Complaint?

The GSL has Rules and Regulations that should assist in all matters relating to the game, your membership of your club and your rights regarding playing, coaching, officiating and being a spectator. The Rules of Competition and GDT are available on the website Here.

Poor problem resolution is often seen as a major contributor to Sports Rage manifestation therefore it is important that your problem is resolved as soon as possible.

Parents often see sport as a safe place for children to have fun, develop skills, learn valuable lessons and to build character. While involvement in sport remains a positive experience for most players/participants, parents know that children and young people can be adversely affected by the behaviour of others.

If you have any concerns, either about your child or other children, or about the behaviour of club coaches, officials or others in positions of responsibility, in the first instance we recommend you talk to the Member Protection Information Officer or someone in authority in your club. You should expect your club to take any complaint seriously, act quickly and ensure that your child and others are safe from harm.

If you are not satisfied with your club's response, contact the GSL MPIO by email at gippslandsoccer.mpio@gmail.com

What is a Mandatory Penalty?

The GSL has a Mandatory Penalty System for players dismissed from the field of play (sent off). The penalties are in accordance with the Grievance, Disciplinary and Tribunal Policy (GDT) and reflect the minimum penalty for offenses, and indicates to players the range of penalties depending on the severity of the offense. FIFA, our governing body, states that any person who is dismissed will automatically be suspended for their next competition match. Some mandatory minimum sentences are one competition match. Should you receive a mandatory one match suspension, this is seen as the one match automatic suspension and no other suspension will be served.
