Soccer helping our Community

SOCCER HELPING OUR COMMUNITY//

Over the course of Season 2017, Bendigo Community Health Services volunteers, Judy Stewart and Darren Brown, lead a team of volunteers from refugee backgrounds to run the canteen for BASL's Miniroos games on Saturday morning's.

It has been found that playing fees and the cost of uniforms and equipment are often a barrier for new arrivals getting involved in sports.

Participating volunteers gained work experience in safe food handling skills, customer service and communication. The volunteer hours and profit from the canteen contributed to playing fees for participants and their families.

Upon completion of the 2017 soccer season a total of $1,500.00 has been outlaid for EIGHT player’s fees, equipment and uniforms for 2017, with another two players having part paid their fees for 2018.

BASL are SUPER proud to have contributed to this awesome project and the positive effect it's had for these players and the community abroad. We look forward to working with Judy again in 2018!

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
