FC Bendigo vs BASL Representative Squads

On Sunday the 27th of July FC Bendigo and the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League combined to hold a development day with the main attraction being games between the FC Bendigo juniors and the BASL 2014 representative teams. The day was held at the Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve.

This was a good opportunity to showcase the level that the talented local Bendigo players are playing at for FC Bendigo in the National Premier Leagues, which pits all of Victoria’s most talented players against each other each week. The day was also a good opportunity for the BASL players and coaches to put their case forward for possible selection for FC Bendigo in the future.

The U/12s game was a closely fought encounter with the BASL team taking the game up to the FC Bendigo team in the opening half and scoring first. Eventually FC Bendigo was able to take control of the match and ran out 2-1 winners on the day.

The U/13s game was a showcase of technical quality when the FC Bendigo team coached by Technical Director Nick Mammone ran out winners 16-nil. With many players in this squad hoping to win selection for the Football Federation Victoria country state team, the squad is firmly focused heading into the final part of the National Premier League season.

On the day the U/14s game was also a closely contested game with FC Bendigo heading home as winners 4-2. Although the result favours FC Bendigo the game was closely fought with FC Bendigo having to work hard throughout the first half to breakdown a determined BASL team. The BASL team showed their attacking powers with a few players catching the eye of FC Bendigo technical staff and doing their chances of possible FC Bendigo selection no harm.

FC Bendigo and the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League would like to congratulate all players and coaches on their effort during the day and look forward to improving the relationship between the two organisations so that Bendigo can continue to be the most successful regional area in Victorian Football.
