Strip Clash
There has recently been several instances of confusion regarding the Rules of what constitutes a strip clash, specifically any clash that may cause a match to be forfeited.
The FIFA Laws Of The Game state the following:
• The two teams must wear colours that distinguish them from each other and also the referee and the assistant referees
• Each goalkeeper must wear colours that distinguish him from the other players, the referee and the assistant referees
To ensure all clubs and referees are aware of what constitutes a clash please note the following:
1. In senior & Junior football both teams must be wearing shirts which are distinguishable from the opposition (different colour) in order for the match to proceed
2. In addition to shirts, in senior football both teams must be wearing socks which are distinguishable from the opposition (different colour) in order for the match to proceed
3. Clubs may wear the same coloured shorts only in the case where it does not cause further clashes.
Please note, in junior football referees may allow a match to proceed when there is a sock clash, provided this does not make the teams too difficult to distinguish between during the match. In this instance referees are required to send an incident report to FFV.
Clubs are reminded they can enter their strip details into SportingPulse. If this has not been done for your team or your strip has recently changed please click HERE for the user guide on how to update this information.
Please refer to the Strip Report sent to your club. If your Club has not updated its strip details on SportingPulse, please use the user guide in the above mentioned paragraph to update your strip details.
Please be reminded that any action taken regarding strip clashes is dealt with under Rule 3.5 of Rules of Competition. Clubs are encouraged to display this memo in referees change room, and referees are encouraged to keep a copy of this memo in their kit bag to minimise confusion.
