Victory Topple Sydney in W-League

Laura Spiranovic has helped Melbourne Victory defeat Sydeny FC by scoring her first W-League goal.

Scores were tied at the half after Victory's Amy Jackson opened the scoring in just the 9th minute, before Sydney's Alanna Kennedy replied right before half time.

Jackson's goal came on a deft touch from a Steph Catley free kick. It was the second assist is as many weeks for the first time captian Catley. Victory continued to dominate the first half, until an attacking 5 minute period for Sydeny saw Kennedy put a header past Victory keeper Brianna Davey for the equaliser.

Sydney resumed their dominance in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but couldn't add to their score. Melbourne worked their way back on top and had chance after chance before Spiranovic made her move.

With scores tied, the former North Geelong Warrior scored the winner in the 82nd minute with a header to the bottom left hand corner.

The win now has Victory just one win away from the top of the table. Facing the second placed Canberra United this Saturday at Wembley Park in Box Hill, the Victory will look to make it three wins in a row.
