VCL All-Stars up to A-League test

19 Victorian Champions League (VCL) players will be given the chance to live their dream when they take on Hyundai A-League club Melbourne Heart at Stead Park, Norlane, on Friday 27 July.

This will be a huge opportunity for the young players, who will be relishing the chance to line up against their Hyundai A-League heroes.

Players were selected for the “VCL Under 17 All-Stars” based on their performances in the Under 17 Boys competition of the VCL.

The VCL is Football Federation Victoria’s elite junior summer competition which sees the state split into 12 zones with representative teams from each zone playing in the competition. This speeds up elite player development by providing the best players with the best coaches and the best opposition.

The goal of the VCL Under 17 All-Stars v Melbourne Heart match is to give some of Victoria’s most promising young players a taste of what it is like to play against Hyundai A-League opposition.

The match will be Melbourne Heart’s first friendly match of the Hyundai A-League pre-season.

FFV Talented Player Development Manager Les Bee said that this is a great opportunity for players to make a claim for a call-up to the National Youth League.

“It’s another opportunity where we’ve identified talented players and are able to expose them to a higher level of football,” said Mr Bee.

“Some of the boys from last year’s All-Star team went on to bigger and better things in the National Youth League.

“It is also a great opportunity for players from regional Victoria to be seen.”

Entry to the match is free, with kick-off at 8pm.
