Womens and Mens Division One Summary Round 9

Womens Summary:

Deakin Uni 4 Barwon 0

The game got off to an interesting start with the ref initially not turning up and one of Deakin’s assistance Simon Burggraaf, having to ref the first 15 minutes. It was as the ref arrived that Deakin scored their first goal through Maddie Lee Gow who ended up scoring three of the four goals. The game up until half time was relatively even where both teams created numerous opportunities.
Mim Petros kept Barwons defence strong the entire game. As usual Barwons midfielder Marnie Harrington controlled the centre allow Barwon some flow through the middle.
In the second half Deakin asserted their dominance scoring another three goals the last of which was by Jana Trimcevski. Deakin came away with a 4 – 0 win

Surfside was able to score a messy goal at the 7 minute mark, however attacks from Breakwater forwards, Megan Scott, Lauren Salaviejus, Polly Marshall and Erin Bourke kept the Surfside defense busy for the majority of the first half. Surfside gained their footing in the second half, quickly showing Breakwater why they are currently on top, with two well placed goals with in the first 5 minutes. Breakwater defenders Taylah Wright, Jess Muffet, Bec Muffet and keeper Ashton Theakstone all held strong fending off further advances, until an ill timed slide tackle by sweeper Tess Marshall allowed a free kick which resulted in a fourth and final goal to Surfside, leaving the full time score at Surfside 4-0 Breakwater

Men's Summary:

Barwon 4 - 1 Breakwater

Another tightly fought encounter between Barwon and Breakwater, where the final score doesn't really give credit to how close it was. Craig Cameron-Smith was in electric form scoring a first half hat trick, the first a well executed header direct from the training ground, the other 2 were about pace, strength and his ability to hit the target. However, after going 2 down Breakwater's David Jaynes scored a well taken goal and Barwon once again Knew, it wasn't going to be an easy game; half time 3 - 1. The second half was much the same but Breakwater's Mick Smyth made a string 0f good saves to keep the Barwon forwards at bay, until super sub Campbell Edwards scored his 5th of the season, all after coming on in the second half; final score: 4 - 1. Craig Cameron-Smith took the majority of the MVP votes with Nathan Darlington also picking up some well earned votes.

Geelong Rangers 1 - 1 Loveley Banks Lions
