Elite development program for girls born in 2000-2001

Four Victorians made the National All Star team at the Under 13 Girls National Championships in Canberra April. All four took part in the Skill Acquisition Program.

And now it’s Geelong’s turn to have access to this groundbreaking developmental program.

With the view of preparing girls for the 2012/13 Victorian Champions League and to gauge interest in a stand-alone Wimmera Girls Skill Acquisition Program - Foundation Squad, Football Federation Victoria (FFV) and Barwon Sports Academy (BSA) are to pilot a Skills Acquisition Program for girls born in 2000 or 2001.

Girls born in either of these years are encouraged to register their interest by clicking here. (Please select Geelong/Ballarat for the foundation program).

Key points

* Girls will be selected for the program from a 1 off trial. This trial will likely be on Sunday June 3rd (TBC) at Howard Glover Reserve. All players are required to pre-register and actual trial times will be sent closer to the date.
* The program will commence mid June and run until end of August in-line with the BSA regional academy. (~10 sessions)
* Training will be once per week.  (Wednesdays at Torquay Precinct - 5pm - 6.15pm) and players must attend all sessions.
* Squad will consist of 12 girls with one SAP trainer.
* Training will be in-line with the statewide Skill Acquisition content.
* The Wimmera Girls SAP is a non-profit program and costs will cover coach, training kit, equipment and facility and training kit costs.   (cost of program will be ~$70)
* Girls currently training in the 2012 Winter Wimmera foundation program will remain in their existing program.

Based on the feedback and success of this pilot program, the goal is to expand the program in the summer to accommodate more girls across different age groups.
