Womens Division 1 summary Round 1

Surfside Waves 11 Barwon 0

A hot day awaited last year’s semi finalist at Shell Road, as Surfside Waves took on Barwon. Surfside started the game the more lively of the two teams and put siege to the Barwon goal with Barwon's keeper Elizabeth Mulree making some outstanding saves to deny the Waves. With the pressure building on the Barwon goal the break through, had to come some great one touch football involving Cassie Hynes who was outstanding in the middle of the park all day, the ball fell to Shamley Woodhouse on her senior debut who took her chance well. Barwon then started to get back in to the game with the heat starting to show on both teams. Surfside turned up the heat with Maddy Bennett grabbing five; with goal of the day going to Maddie Hill who hit a screamer from forty yards. Surfside ran out eleven nil winners and look forward to next week’s blockbuster against Breakwater Eagles.

Surfcoast 7 Breakwater Eagles 0

A disappointing start to the season by the Breakwater Women with a shocking 7-nil loss to Surf Coast in Torquay. The hot temperatures and newly laid astro-turf got the better of the girls who at half time were down 5-nil.
Refusing to give up, Breakwater put in a gallant effort in the second half, which saw Corrine Burns stretchered off with a knee injury and Louise Riley suffering a debilitating leg cramp. However, best efforts by the Breakwater girls were still hampered by a very inform Surf Coast Team who scored twice more before the end whistle.

Geelong 6 Barwon Heads 4

A great game in the heat saw both teams playing the ball around well.  Geelong’s Millie Livesey was superb upfront, pouncing on every chance scoring 2 great early goals.  Barwon Heads came back with a goal from veteran Chris Cuff and another from new recruit Michelle Spry.  More goals were scored for Geelong through there prolific speedster up front Millie Livelsey.   Barwon Heads came back, adding two more courtesy of Maddie Connor. Best for the Hammerheads were Chelsea Hutson, Grace Hill and Maddie Connor.
