Lara win Men's Division 1 Grand Final

Lara have won back-to-back Football Federation Victoria Geelong Men’s Division 1 Grand Finals with a 2-0 victory over Barwon.

A lapse in concentration in the first half cost Barwon dearly, as Lara scored two goals in two minutes that would ultimately win them the game.

After beating three opponents and putting a golden opportunity inches wide in the 20th minute, Lara star striker Damien Nasta made no mistake four minutes later when he rounded Barwon keeper John Reaney and put the ball into an empty net.

Heath Urqhart struck a venomous shot from the edge of the box in the 26th minute that Reaney did well to get a fingertip to, but Shawn Murphy pounced on the rebound to score from close range to double Lara’s lead.

After enjoying ten minutes of utter dominance, Lara were pushed back by a resilient Barwon, who looked likely to peg a goal back.

In the second half Barwon continued to throw players forward, creating numerous chances yet exposing themselves to Lara counter-attacks.

An inspired goal-line slide tackle by Sean Mahon kept Barwon in the game, though they were unable to find a way past Elijah Kemerer who produced a string of fine saves for Lara.

In earlier games, Surf Coast defeated Bell Park 5-4 in the Men’s Division 3 Grand Final and Geelong beat Springdale 2-0 in the Men’s Division 2 Grand Final.
