About Slammers
BASKETBALL SOUTH WEST HISTORY
➢ Geographe Basketball was formed in 1997 to promote and develop the game of basketball in the South West Region of Western Australia;
➢ Our first WABL teams were entered under Lakeside in 1998 and various other clubs over the next two seasons as the base of players, coaches & referees grew;
➢ Our first Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) teams played as the South West Slammers in 2001
➢ In late 2003 Basketball South West was formed. The State Basketball League (SBL) License was purchased from the Sou West Slammers Pty Ltd;
➢ In 2004 BSW played as a complete club through all grades of the WABL juniors through to the senior SBL competition.
➢ BSW has grown to become the premier association promoting and supporting basketball within regional WA.
BSW has a proud history of developing players from juniors through the seniors via a well-structured player development path way with links to elite basketball programmes, competitions and support. Highlights include achieving 4 Men’s SBL Championships, 1 Women’s SBL Championship as well as over 10 WABL Championships.
We are extremely proud of our contribution to the development of our Australian representatives:
➢ Mark Worthington - 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Game & 2006 Japan World Championships, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2010 Turkey World Championships and 2012 London Olympics;
➢ Kate Fielding – 2014 Spain World Championships;
➢ Cameron Gliddon – 2018 Brisbane Commonwealth Games
➢ Numerous male & female players attending Australian junior squad trials and playing college basketball in the USA;
➢ WNBL representatives Kate Fielding, Bianca Donovan, Georgia Denehey and recently selected Tayah Burrows.
