Kingborough Huon Basketball Association (KHBA)

Kingborough-Huon Basketball Association (KHBA) is a full-service Basketball Association that delivers basketball programs in the Kingborough and Huon municipalities.

In 2016 KHBA took over the operations of the “After School and Senior Rosters” from the Kingborough Sports Centre. With their support and by continuing to work with stakeholders in the region we are growing the competitions and providing pathway development opportunities for our participants.

The domestic competition runs daily with participants as young as 7yrs, all the way through to the ages to 55+ for both men and women. These competitions are a great opportunity to recreate in a safe, positive and fun environment for all.

·     Kingborough-Huon Basketball Association (KHBA) is a new structure and new direction for basketball in the Kingborough-Huon region.

·     The vision is to bring all basketball operations for the region under the one umbrella in order to provide the best basketball product and service.

·     This structure will allow us to plan and implement development programs more effectively.

·     Forming one association will allow us to provide a pathway from Mini-Kings and our juniors right through to state teams, SBL and beyond.

What does KHBA provide?

·     KHBA is running local junior after school and senior social rosters.

·     We have continued to provide pathways to the HCBL (Hobart Chargers Basketball League) and HCJBL (Hobart Chargers Junior Basketball League) through our representative team, the Kingston Kings.

·     KHBA Conduct school holiday camps in each term break, Mini-Kings programs each term and has become a provider for the Sporting Schools Initiative in Southern Tasmania.

·     We are providing development programs and pathways not just for payers but also for coaches, referees and volunteers.

Junior After School Rosters

·     KHBA are currently running after school rosters on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Kingborough Sports Centre.

·     Competitions are ran in Grade levels, we have boys and girls competitions for grade 3/4 and 5/6 as well as high school competitions for year 7/8 and 9/10.

·     Schools from right across the region have entered teams, this includes all schools in the Kingston area as well as schools from Sandy Bay and Huonville.

Senior Social Rosters

·     KHBA also conducts a senior social roster on Monday and Thursday nights at the Kingborough Sports Centre.

·     Depending on Team Registration numbers we run Men’s and Women’s competitions across both nights.

Mini-Kings Program

·     Each school term KHBA conducts a Mini-Kings program at the Sports Centre on a Thursday afternoon.

·     This program is designed for the younger players (between the age of 5 and 10) and focuses more on inclusiveness and skill acquisition with basketball as opposed to competition.

School Holiday Camps

·     In each of the school holiday breaks, KHBA conducts school holiday camps at the Sports Centre.

 Sporting Schools Initiative

·     In 2016 KHBA registered to become an official provider for the Sporting Schools Initiative (formally Active After Schools).

·     This program allows schools to register an interest in a sport through the program and then receive support from the sport’s governing body in regard to setting up a program with a provider.

·     KHBA is one of only 3 registered providers in Southern Tasmania (including Basketball Tasmania) and is the only provider in the Kingborough and Huon Valley giving us exclusivity to any school in the region.
