BIG V ROUND 10 PREVIEW - FROM THE COACH

BIG V PREVIEW – WARRIORS V GIANTS
Pakenham 'Compare Quotes' Warriors Vs Coburg Giants

When and Where: Saturday 25th May, 6:00pm @ The Colosseum

Season Series: Coburg 1-0 (82-77)
Current Standings: Warriors (7-3) first, Giants (4-5) sixth

We welcome the Coburg Giants this week as we look to continue building on our current position following last weeks emphatic win against Keysborough, but are well aware of Mornington, Keilor and Melton who are pressing.

The first quarter was evenly contested but from that point on we locked in defensively and the 26-6 second quarter put us in a commanding position.

The great thing was in the second half we were able to sustain and further increase the lead, where in similar situations previously, we couldn’t land the knock-out blow to put a team away convincingly.

All in all it was our most well rounded performance to date, with the scoring spread across the board and defensively our intensity never waivered from start to end.
Final Score - 86-48 (B.Winder 23pts, J.Reid 11pts & 8rebs, C.Drew 11pts, J.Magrath 9pts, J.Topp 7pts, 10rebs, 7stls & 6asts)

We faced Coburg back on opening night, where they came away with a hard fought 82-77 win, but the landscape has changed significantly in the past nine weeks, notably player personnel.

The Giants pushed Mornington to the death last weekend, going down by just two points and despite their 4-5 record are a no-fuss team who continue to get contributions from a number of sources.

Some of their key guys are big man, Jordan Harding (17.7ppg & 12.6rpg) who is focal point of their offense, court general Brian O’Meara (14.2ppg & 4.8rpg), while perimeter threats Matthew Roche (9.9ppg) and Kieran Maguire (8.8ppg) have both notched several double-digit point games.

For our guys there is still a long way to go and the great thing is through quiet patches for some players, others have stepped up, while the development of our younger crew is constantly noticeable. While coaches worry about peaking early and the like, being a completely new outfit, with a blank canvas it’s purely about competing and executing each week and our consistency with that continues to improve.

Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you Saturday at the game.
