Extreme Heat Policy

Sports Medicine Australia and Sydney University have developed a Heat Risk webtool and new Extreme Heat Risk Response Guidelines for sport.

The webtool allows a club to select the relevant sport (Football (soccer)) and the relevant suburb (location) on the webtool, and once the heat risk category is shown, the club refers to the Extreme Heat Risk Response Guidelines for recommended actions to help mitigate the risk to participants, which may include postponement or cancellation of games or activities.

In hot weather events it is important that all Clubs and Associations:

  1. Use the SMA Heat Risk webtool to assess the heat risk

and

  1. Refer to the new SMA Extreme Heat Risk Response Guidelines

  1. If the Heat Risk webtool is offline, refer to the FNSW Extreme Heat Policy (here).
