THE philosophy of having fun has helped South Cairns win the past two AFL Cairns women's premierships and they see no reason to change their approach for the start of the new season today.
The Cutters open their premiership defence with a grand final rematch against North Cairns, but will bear little resemblance to the team that claimed last season’s title.
Cutters forward Laura Martin said only five players remained from the previous summer.
"A lot of the older girls thought that now they’ve got their premiership they’re going to have a bit of a break," she said.
"We’ve got a lot of new girls in. They’re a bit of a mixed bag.
"We’ve got a few older girls who have come across from union and a handful of young ones.
"There are about five girls under the age of 18 in our side now, which is good to see."
With some of the new players not familiar with the intricacies of Australian rules, Martin said the focus would be on having a good time.
