IT did not heal the hurt of losing last season's AFL Cairns Women's League grand final, but North Cairns took a measure of satisfaction from handing Souths a 50-point thumping on Saturday.
The Tigers started their season with a bang that echoed around Watsons Oval as they stormed to a 7.9 (51) to 0.0 (1) victory over the reigning premiers.
Both teams baptised new personnel into the league, but Tigers player-coach Jo Butland said her players handled the initiation better.
"They (Souths) had a side of young players and an inexperienced team, but in saying that so did we," she said.
"It was good to get that first game out of the way and to see that the girls played well."
While she nominated Valerie Lynch and Staci Trindle-Price as the Tigers’ standout performers, Butland said the even contribution from her players made the victory especially pleasing.
"We were just really consistent across the whole park," she said.
