Match Previews
Round 3 promises to be a special round since it will feature only men since the women decided that they were too good for AFL Quebec and went to the US to take on the Lady Demons and the Magpies from Boston and New York.
Dockers v Demons
The Dockers are sitting atop the table and this looks very much like a David vs. Goliath kind of battle. The Dockers have been in such a good patch that this punter simply cannot give the Demons much of a shot at the upset. Of course it all depends on who shows up for the day, but at the end of the day, the Dockers have a very strong squad and it will be very difficult to knock them off.
The Demons can be strengthened by the full fitness of their coach Luke O’Farrell who looks to be over his hamstring issues. Daniel Robinson is also a chance to make his debut for the Demons who were very happy to have Kyle Graham back last game who scored 6 goals 3 behinds. A last minute omission from the Round 2 squad, Shane Foley may in line for a recall, and the Lachine’s native speed and strength may just be what the Demons need to kick start their season.
The Dockers should have near a full squad on Sunday, they will however be missing ex club president Luke Anderson who is off being a playboy with 9 women in Boston and Neil Koch is also a possibility to play, but it is too early to say if he’s over his ankle injury. Ronan Shaughnessy should be back to full health as well for the Dockers. Guy Joel, who injured his knee last game, will most likely miss the game with that injury and his return is listed as TBD on the club website.
Bombers v West Island Eagles
The Laval Bombers are coming off one of the most amazing comebacks in AFL Quebec history. The hotly contested match against the Demons has given the Bombers a confidence boost, especially after a humiliating defeat in the first game of the season in the Grand Final rematch. They’re looking strong and are more than half a chance at beating the Eagles. The West Island Eagles are coming off one of their worst performances and will most certainly look to show the league that they are indeed a force to be reckoned with. They will come in the contest fired up and it promises to be quite the footy game!
The Bombers are going to get 3 very important Aussies back with the return of player-coach Paul Fairbrother and lanky Collingwood supporter Zac Strevens back in the key position. Robert Gordon is also set to make his comeback after his club imposed suspension for indecent exposure at a night club after the loss to the Dockers. Josue Gavidia remains out injured with an Achilles injury. They will also be without goal scorers Belzie and Graham who are in Boston to make the Angles proud!
The Eagles are going to need to get the Aussie contingent back with Eliot Kempster and Matt Davidson who will be invaluable to the team if they were to play. Captain Matty Payne is also dealing with a shoulder injury and he is listed as a maybe for Sunday’s game on the club website. The Eagles will be happy to welcome back Marc St Germain who missed last weekend’s game with the sniffles.
.
It promises to be a great weekend for footy so come out and support your team!!
