Two great games for us this weekend in parc Champêtre. First of all, they are calling for a very hot day on Sunday so for all please bring water and something to cool down because it`s going to get HOT out there!
Eagles v Dockers
The two winning sides of last week face off against each other to determine who will go on top of the ladder after two weeks. Both teams had comfortable wins last week and it promises to be a cracking game.
The Eagles will be led by their captain Matty Payne and always reliable on baller Matt Davidson. After missing last weeks game with general soreness, the rumor mill has been spinning all week at the return of star ruckman Eliot Kempster back into the side. First round pick Remi Mathieu and Marc St-Germain will also make their home and away debut on Sunday after being omitted from the playing list last week. Fred Manny and Sean Smallwood coming off very impressive performances in last weeks game are clearly two men that cannot be left to run free.
The Dockers easily beat a shorthanded Bombers team last Sunday. They will also have some important players coming back in with Rising Star winner Guy Joel back into the side this week. Marc-Olivier will also make his AFL Quebec debut. The news isn`t as good for luckless Irishman Ronan Shaughnessy who is out with an Achilles injury and his season is in doubt. According to a very unreliable source, we hear that Brian Leveille will be making his big come back this week. Ed Duff is still unaccounted for; if anyone knows anything about him, please call Ronan as soon as possible. Toby Campain’s 7 shorts for goal, and 4 goals lead the league and it’s going to be interesting to see if the Eagles can neutralize him on Sunday.
This game is difficult to call as we are so early into the season, but the loss of Best and Fairest winner Shaughnessy could prove to be too much. Eagles by 18 points
Bombers v Demons
The Demons have a number of players coming back for them this week. The Rookie of the tournament Marty Lawless has gotten over his broken toe nail and is ready to get back to action. Fellow Gaelic convert Shane Foley will also be making his debut this weekend as will Ivan Ivanov who has gotten over his back injury. Canadian All-Star Kyle Graham will be wrapped in bubble wrap until Sunday when he will be unleashed on the field for the first time since the pre-season tournament. Véronique Chasse will be a game time decision as she battles regaining fitness after a quad injury and Clément is set to make his debut after missing the last couple of weeks with a rib injury sustained in the rookie game. The Demons are coming off a disappointing performance last Sunday and will be looking to make amends.
The Bombers are going to get some much needed help with the additions of no less than 4 players. Ali Telya, Kevin Barranco, David Boulerice and Robyn Graham are all slated to make their AFL Quebec debut over the weekend. The Bombers are battling the loss of multiple premiership players; Paul Fairbrother along with roommate Josue Gavidia are unavailable for selection this week. Stevie Owens was seen walking around in a moon boot at the club has ruled him out for the first rounds of the season. Star ruck man Zac Strevens was granted personal leave for this game. However injuries aren`t an excuse and the Bombers are going to come out on Sunday looking for the first win of the season.
This game is just as difficult to call as the previous one, but if Kyle Graham can come out injury free then the Demons might just take this game by a goal.
