E.J. Whitten AKA Mr. Football once said...
"It's got to be a do-or-die effort. You've got to show all the guts and determination you've got in your bodies. You gotta inspire me.
You've been in front all day and you've gotta stay there..."
v Hawthorn. EJ's last game in '70. He won by 3 pts.
It has gone down in history as one of the most memorable moments in AFL History.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
As we draw nearer to the AFL Quebec Grand Final it is important to remember the effort, the determination, the commitment and the time invested by both teams to reach the second last Saturday in September.
It makes finals footy so enjoyable. The saying "It all comes down to this" has been ringing in the ears for our two worthy finalists all week and come Sunday afternoon at 1pm it becomes a reality.
Will it be the Laval Bombers still flying high from their come from behind win over the Montreal Demons? Or, is it time to show the white flag to the new force in town the minor premiers the Old Montreal Dockers?
Rob ‘The Man Mountain’ Gordon has set the example by providing the discipline, the passion and the experience to his young gunners required to get them to the big dance. The team had a special training session on the eve, eve of their Semi Final win. It proved to be the difference as the extra fitness and camaraderie helped them overrun the Dee’s in the final minutes.
Looking at the list of the Bustling, Busty Bombers it is safe to say they will make a contest. Will it be the day Paul Fairybrother pulls the pin on the grenade and kicks a ton? Magic 8 ball says ‘Ask Later’.
In defense the Bombers may be strengthened by the return of key rebounding backpacking backmen Vincent Mousseau. Combined with the first South American (Josue Gavidia) allowed to perform the ‘Hand of God’ legitimately to win a Cup, it is going to make it difficult for the two pronged attack of WiryNeil Koch and the always ravishing Ronan O’Shaughnessy to combat.
The Bombers midfield are full of hard nuts. Dominique Pitchen, Lauchie Trumble and The Incredible Mulk Kozlowski to name a few.
Up forward expect to see a few tricky snaps from the Brigadier Belzie and Sargeant Kate both very reliable to kick two or three majors.
After another Bomber, bonding session this Friday before the Grand Final expect them to come out strong and try to keep the reigning premiers title for another year.
As the Bombers prepare and set their sites on another Premiership Cup they have to jump from air, dig deep through the trenches and arrive at the beach to face arguably the most organized and well structured AFL team on the Canadian South East.
The Old Montreal Dockers mission is steered strategically well by the Lucky Pot of Gold thieving, Fiddly Diddly eeee Potatoe eating, super star coach Ronan O’Shaughnessy. Expect him to play dangerous on both his watches and at both ends of the ground, he is a genuine contender for mark of the year…as soon as the big/little fella can get his rig off the ground.
If Shaughnessy is the Captain of the Ship then its first mate must be Neil Koch, the lanky big man has a set of hands and can use his opportunities kicking at goal more effective than anyone in Quebec.
The (Andrew) Bell needs to start ringing early in this game, the Aussie import is vitally important as he can read and find the footy well to help set up the play moving into the forward line.
It is safe to say that there is definitely something in the water down at the Ol’ Docks! Every new cadet is a superstar! Since Francis, Guy, Brian, Philippe started their first shift they have shown they are a force to be reckoned with. Don’t even get me started on the tantalizingly terrific tagger Loucas Dufort. He is exciting to watch and will definitely run around again just tackling players into the ground as always. Throw in a Legault and another Irishman and you’ve got yourself one unique concoction that works really well.
This is going to be a battle for the ages, from Air and by sea! It is one of the most difficult predictors I have ever had to decide. Experience versus Enthusiasm, Size versus Speed, Passion versus Class. It’s just too hard!
I’m going to have to say a tie!
However if the main man Luke Anderson comes out of retirement to play for the Dockers for one last hurrah!... Bombers by 3 goals J
All the best to both the forever impressive Laval Bombers and to the superb Old Montreal Dockers.
